The Weeknd Reveals Significance Of His Full-Face Bandages

Before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show this Sunday, fans have commented on the full face of bandages the singer has been donning.

He was also wearing the bandages during his performance at the American Music Awards. However, in his recent interview with Variety, he answered few questions about his full-face bandages. He answered questions during a break from his Super Bowl rehearsals.

Back in November last year, the singer launched his After Hours album cycle with tracks. He released singles and videos Blinding Lights and Heartless. This began his journey of red jackets and busted-nose character. the storyline of his bad-night in Las Vegas has continued throughout many of his videos, TV, and award shows.

The singer revealed his bandaged nose appearance but did not reveal much and he talked about the videos. He shared that this character is having a really bad night and he said we can come with our own interpretation of what it is. The bad night starts off with a few too many drinks and a fight.

However, the story becomes more surreal involving possession by an evil spirit, decapitation, and more.  And when that appearance just started being normal, the singer started donning a face that was fully wrapped in bandages during his explosive appearance on the AMAs. He looked as if he had just had plastic surgery and his Save Your Tears video made it look like that is exactly what happened.

“It’s all a progression and we watch the character’s storyline”

Many fans were wondering what the bandages actually mean as they involve in discussions, memes. However, he looked completely normal in his new Super Bowl ad. Fans were further thinking if he will keep this up for his performance at the Super Bowl.

The singer discussed the significance of the entire ensemble. He said the head bandages reflects on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity. The Snowchild singer further added that it is people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons. He said, “The significance of the entire head bandages is reflecting on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated.”

When asked about giving an insight into how the bandages fit into the original bad night Las Vegas storyline, he said it’s a progression. The Weeknd said, “It’s all a progression and we watch the character’s storyline hit heightened levels of danger and absurdity as his tale goes on.”

He was then questioned about what could his audience take from the thing he seems to be intentionally doing. The singer was asked about making his face increasingly unattractive while promoting his biggest album. He responded saying, “I suppose you could take that being attractive isn’t important to me but a compelling narrative is.”

The Weeknd was then asked why he appears in photos or TV and videos while he is in character but sometimes he does not. He said why can’t he play with the character and the artist and let those lines blur. The singer was then questioned if he is still in character. He goofily responded as he said he does not know and would have to ask ‘him’.
