Sunrisers look to open their account as LSG ride high on confidence

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants, 12th Match (N), DY Patil, April 04, 2022, Indian Premier League

Match Preview: In today’s fixture, we have Sunrisers Hyderbad clashing against Lucknow Super Giants. The Men in Orange might be low on confidence as they lost by a huge margin in their opening match. No top-order batter managed to cross the double figures. Hyderabad must keep their spirits high, but the fact that they finished last in previous edition is a challenge for them to overcome and overturn. They have the right staff to keep them in the right mindset. Dale Steyn, Muttiah Murlidharan and Brian Lara are all experienced veterans who know that comeback is possible from any stage. With the shortest format of the game, the possibility further increases. Aiden Markram scored a fighting fifty in the first match and SRH will need him to perform this time too. The absence of Rashid Khan is strongly felt in the middle overs where SRH felt to strike wickets.

As of Lucknow Super Giants, they will enter this match with high morale. They began their season with a loss but were quick to bounce back against CSK. Chasing down a total of over 200 shows their incredible batting strength. Badoni is a promising youngster and he is contributing big more the team. His shots have confidence written all over them, and that confidence is accompanied by perfect timing. Evin Lewis has fitted in the squad brilliantly, he is another batsman to look out for. While Stoinis is not available yet, the presence of Jason Holder is a big boost to squad. Holder is one of the most improved T20 cricketers over the last two years. His all-round ability is something LSG will capitalize on.

What the Captains said:

Kane Williamson(SRH captain): When you take a wicket off a no-ball, it’s never nice. It’s important for us to look at areas where we can improve. (On Umran Malik) Incredibly exciting, he’s got that raw pace, hopefully he continues to evolve as a cricketer. He’s young, got some experience last year which was really valuable and I’m sure he’ll just continue to get better. For us as a side and as a young team, we want to make sure that we stay engaged throughout, be nice and clear on what we’re trying to execute. With the bat, it was tough, the ball moved early on we needed to navigate that as well as we could.

KL Rahul | Winning captain: He has a big heart and he is a fighter for a young boy. It shows the character to bounce back with the wet ball. He is someone who wants to grow and learn. He spends time with the spin coach. Credit for that should go to Vijay Dahiya and GG. They were the ones who wanted him. His batting has been phenomenal. Can bowl as well. Great find for Indian cricket. You can give yourself a couple of overs. If you get a couple of boundaries then it settles the nerves. We got the start we wanted for a big chase. I told him before the first game that he will be batting at three. Doesn’t matter. Spinners or fast bowlers he knows one way.
