Singer Sia Named Worst Director At Pre-Oscar Razzies Worst Movie Awards

Singer Sia has been awarded the Worst Director for her controversial film at the Razzies, a pre-Oscars award for some of the worst movies of the year.

Titled Music, her film has won three Golden Raspberry Awards altogether, including the worst actress Kate Hudson and the worst supportive actress Maddie Ziegler.

The movie has been criticized for placing Ziegler in an autistic lead role and for its portrayal of autism.

It has been described as “intolerant” and “ill-conceived” “autism musical”.

Movie Plot

The film follows Zu, a recent drug dealer starring Hudson, who becomes the guardian of her younger autistic sister, starring Sia’s protégé Ziegler.

The Australian pop music star has previously issued a public apology for casting a neurotypical actor as a nonverbal autistic girl, and for scenes depicting the use of restraints on autistic people.

“I plan to remove the restraint scenes from all future printings,” she tweeted in February, shortly before deleting her account. “I listened to the wrong people and that is my responsibility, my research was clearly not thorough enough, not wide enough.”

Virtual Awards

Now in their 40th year, the Razzies winners were announced on video on YouTube.

The award for the worst film in the “fake news snooze-fest” Absolute Proof, who said there had been fraud in the US presidential election in 2020. The star and its director Mike Lindell have also won the worst character.

Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s cameo in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, saw him win worst supporting actor. Mr Giuliani dismissed as a “complete fabrication” a clip from the film which appeared to show him with his hands down his trousers on a bed in a hotel room.

Meanwhile, Dr Dolittle’s remanded abuse by Robert Downey Jr took the award for “worst mistake, extortion or follow-up”.

The special award goes to 2020 itself for being the “worst calendar year”.
