Earlier today, actress Rhea Chakraborty took to social media in order to request Mumbai Police for protection. This comes after the actress claimed that there is a threat to her as well as her family’s life.
Rhea, who has been amidst the center of investigations following her former partner, Sushant Singh Rajput’s mysterious demise, has been surrounded by several allegations and claims. The actor sought protection for her and her family from Mumbai Police so that they can safely cooperate with the probe agencies.
“How is this family going to live?”
In an Instagram post, her first since July 24, the model-turned-actress shared a video of her father being hounded by the press outside their home, as he tries to enter the building. She wrote in her caption, “This is inside my building compound. The man in this video is my father, Indrajit Chakraborty ( retd. army officer. ) We have been trying to get out of our house to cooperate with ED, CBI and various investigation authorities,” wrote the actress. The video seems to be shot from what seems to be a grilled window upstairs.
Chakraborty further wrote claiming that there is a threat to her life and her family. “We have informed the local police station and even gone there, no help provided . We have informed the investigation authorities to help us get to them, no help arrived. How is this family going to live?” asked the 28-year-old.
She continued, “We are only asking for assistance to cooperate with the various agencies that have asked us. I request @mumbaipolice to please provide protection so that we can cooperate with these investigation agencies. #safetyformyfamily. Rhea concluded the post by writing, “In COVID times, these basic law and order restrictions need to be provided.”
“Is there any law at all ? Are we barbarians?”
In a second, now deleted video, posted minutes after the first, she shared the testimony of Ram, her building watchman. Who has been working there for 10 years. “Today, the mediawallahs came. They harassed and hit me, I have been injured. I have children at home and I’m unable to go home,” the watchman, who identified himself as Ram, said.
“Is this not a crime ? Who is responsible for this ? Is there any law at all ? Are we barbarians?” wrote Chakraborty, along with the hashtag #justiceforram. The video has since been deleted from the actress’s Instagram page.
Police arrive at Chakraborty’s residency
Soon after the post was shared on social media, an officer from the Mumbai Police team reportedly arrived at the actress’s residence. As per reports, The police officer in question reportedly came from the nearest Santacruz police station. This comes after the Chakraborty family complained about the media outside their residence.
Earlier in the morning, Rhea’s brother Showik Chakraborty arrived at the DRDO guest house here for questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This is the first time that a member from Rhea’s family is being questioned by the investigating agency.
Rajput’s flat-mate Siddharth Pithani was also called by the CBI for the seventh consecutive day for questioning in the actor’s death case.
“Rhea Chakraborty was giving poison to my son for a long time, she is his murderer”
A drug-related investigation has also been launched against Ms Chakraborty based on WhatsApp chats retrieved from her mobile. Sushant Singh Rajput’s father recently accused Rhea Chakraborty, who dated the actor in his final months, of “poisoning his son.”
He said in his statement, “Rhea Chakraborty was giving poison to my son, Sushant for a long time, she is his murderer. The investigating agency must arrest her and her associates.” The Supreme Court last week upheld the transfer of an FIR, lodged by Rajput’s father in Patna against Chakraborty and others for allegedly abetting his suicide and misappropriating his money, to the CBI.
Rhea Chakraborty is likely to be questioned by the CBI in the coming days in connection with the probe into the events leading to the death of the 34-year-old actor who was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14.
