Rapper Silentó Charged With Assault After Allegedly Attacking Two Strangers With A Hatchet
Rapper Silentó, who is best known for his hit debut single, “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” has been charged with two counts of assault in the past couple of days. The second time being in Los Angeles after he allegedly threatened two strangers with a hatchet.
The Georgia rapper whose real name is Richard Lamar Hawk, is facing “Two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon. With allegations of using a hatchet as a deadly and dangerous weapon, in connection with the incident,” the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday.
Alleged Domestic Violence
The news comes just as the rapper was out on Bail after his arrest last Friday, in Santa Ana, on an Aug. 28 report of alleged domestic violence. At the time, he was booked on a charge of “Inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant,” as said by Orange County district attorney spokesperson, Kimberly Edds. Although Silentó was released from custody, the alleged incident still remains under review. The second felony assault took place the very next day in Los Angeles.
The Alleged Assault: What went down
The Police are accusing the 22 year old rapper of walking into a stranger’s unlocked home in the Valley Village neighborhood of Los Angeles and whipping out a hatchet. He allegedly attempted to “strike the two people in the home with a hatchet before one of them managed to disarm him.”
Los Angeles Police Officer, J. Chaves revealed that Hawk was looking for a woman (reportedly his Girlfriend) when he entered the residence. He then threatened the homeowners as well as their children. After he infiltrated the home, someone apparently screamed for help and others tackled and disarmed him. After which an alleged scuffle broke out. Silentó’s friends later arrived at the residence and informed the rapper that it was the wrong house. They left just as the police were called, but the officers managed to find Silento and arrested him.
The Rapper currently remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility with his Bail set at $105,000. Silento is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday morning at the Van Nuys Courthouse. If convicted as charged, the rapper faces a possible maximum sentence of six years in state prison. The case continues to remain under investigation by the LAPD and North Hollywood Station.
Rise To Fame
The 22-year-old artist gained fame for his 2015 viral hit “Watch Me” (Whip/Nae Nae). Silento made the song when he was 17 years old in his basement. He had already had more than 100,000 streams on Soundcloud before Capitol Records approached and signed him in April 2015. The popular bop peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 51 weeks on the chart. The song’s infectious dance-along video was quick to draw millions of YouTube views and also brought television appearances for the rapper. Later in 2018, Silento released his album, “Fresh Outta High School.”
