Who is Tory Lanez?
Tory Lanez was born with the name Daystar Peterson and got his inspiration for his stage name through his childhood antics.
When he was a kid, Lanez was known for always being outside. Whether he was running around, skateboarding or rollerskating, Lanez was always on the streets, hence the assigned childhood nickname, “Lanez.”
As he got older and realized that he wanted to make a career out of rapping, Lanez began to refer to himself as “Notorious,” after Notorious B.I.G. Unfortunately for him, the people in his neighborhood started to call him “Tory” for short, and the name stuck.
“It became Tory Lanez. I pretty much put them together,” Lanez told.
The Arrest
Tory Lanez, 27, was arrested on a gun charge after a house party in the Hollywood Hills on July 12, a police report obtained. Megan Thee Stallion, 25, was also with Tory at the time, and she was later taken to a hospital to be treated after she injured her foot on some broken glass.
It all started when, according to the police report, authorities were called to the party’s location at around 4:30 a.m., after an alleged argument involving the rapper broke out outside the home. Witnesses told that shots were fired in the air before an SUV in the same area sped off. After police received a description of the SUV, they located it and found both Tory and Megan inside, along with another unidentified woman and a gun.
While Megan was taken to the hospital because of her injury, the police report tells that Tory was taken to jail and booked for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, which is considered a felony. He was held on a $35K bail, and police listed Megan as a “victim” of the incident. Four shell casings were found by police outside of the Hollywood Hills home.
Before the arrest happened, Tory and Megan were seen hanging out at a pool party with Kylie Jenner, as evidenced by a video posted on Megan’s Instagram Live this past weekend, and it appeared as though they were at the makeup mogul’s new Holmby Hills mansion. We can’t confirm if Kylie was at the same Hollywood Hills home at the time shots were allegedly fired, but the location is several miles away from her own home.
Tory and Megan have become close over the past few months and even sparked romance rumors in May when people found out they were quarantining together.
