“Nearly 2000 families reached so far, aim to reach 5000” says Varun Chibber about his latest philanthropic effort

The novel coronavirus has disrupted livelihoods across the nation. In this tough time, a Mumbai based entrepreneur, Varun Chibber, steps it up.

The struggle to fight against the novel coronavirus is real and India is taking all necessary measures to defeat the virus. While the country is in its 21-day lockdown, the states including Odisha and Punjab extended its lockdown till April 30. The same move has been initiated by Maharashtra and West Bengal. As per the current situation, the lockdown might extend across the nation. In such times, the life of wage earning citizens and their families are hit the hardest.

Chibber has taken the initiative to distribute essential food and ration items to the communities in South Mumbai. With almost 2,000 households covered under the initiative, this distribution drive will help the low-income families, daily wage workers, the sanitation and healthcare workers. As soon as Chibber and his team got to know about the situation, they made all the necessary arrangements in terms of food supply and transport. The first phase of the drive covered areas of Shiv Shakti Nagar at Backbay, Darya Nagari and Sudham Jhopdi at Colaba, Sassoon Dock and workers at the G.T. Hospital. His team was out to help underserved communities by taking proper measures and even urged them to stay safe at home.

An entrepreneur and a social activist, Varun is the grandson of late Aloo Jal Chibber. She was an Indian political leader who actively served as an MLA from the period 1972-1978 in the Colaba constituency. In a statement, Varun explained how his grandmother shaped his ideology towards upliftment. “Whatever I am today are the qualities I have imbibed from my grandmother. She set an example with her life and career. She devoted all of her time for the development of society and the country. I hope to continue the legacy and keep doing such work. We are blessed and grateful to be in such a position where we can help many people. I urge everyone to do their bit“, he quoted.

With the lockdown being extended in the Maharashtra state, Mr Varun Chibber has taken the responsibility to serve the people in South Mumbai region. He has earlier made several donations and he hopes to keep up the good work by establishing a foundation of his own for all of the philanthropic activities by the end of this year.
