Miley Cyrus has had quite a year as she recorded her version of songs by icons like Blondie, The Cranberries, and Stevie Nicks. In her interview with Rolling Stone, the singer talked about the ups and downs she’s been through in the past two years.

She also opened up about the difficulties she faced during her divorce, her newfound sobriety as well as Hannah Montana. Yes, you read that right. The singer shared that Hannah Montana got the will to accept her history from famous fans Lil Nas X and Troye Sivan.

“I had to evolve because Hannah was larger than life, larger than me,” Miley told Rolling Stone about the insecurity she felt in moving past the part of her career that had rocketed her to stardom. “I felt like I was never going to amount to the success of Hannah Montana.”

However, the artist soon found out that her work on Disney Channel had made a positive impact on younger artists that she currently admires. This also made her see what Hannah meant to her. She shared that it is how Lil Nas X came to know about her dad. She was referring to her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus’ role on the show.

“He grew up watching Hannah Montana and said, ‘I want to do a song with Robby Ray.’” This means that Hannah was the one behind giving us the Grammy-winning song, Old Town Road’s remix. Meanwhile, Miley shared that she has to thank Lil Nas X in return.

‘S–t, I f–king am Hannah Montana.’

The singer said, “Being a young queer kid’s idol that could turn out to be a Lil Nas X and create a whole identity for themselves of being inspired from watching me growing up.” She further added when she hears artists like Troye Sivan say that he felt more comfortable with his sexuality when she released, My Heart Beats for Love.

Miley explained that when her peers are having these experiences and accepting themselves through something that she made makes her feel like Hannah Montana. She shared, “When my peers are having these experiences and accepting themselves because of something that I demonstrated while they were a kid, that’s when I go, ‘S–t, I f–king am Hannah Montana.’”

The singer further added that Hannah Montana wasn’t a character. she explained how she was the concept of the show and that it’s her. The Malibu singer added that she really had to come to terms with that and not be a third-person about it.

Miley identifies as queer and has been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. The singer had revealed earlier this year that she had left her church as a teenager because it was forcing her gay friends into conversion therapy. The therapy is a scientifically debunked practice that will attempt at changing a person’s sexuality.

The singer, however, is not stopping after releasing her latest album, Plastic Hearts. She has been working on the recording of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters. The artist had covered Hole’s Doll Parts on the Howard Stern Show.
