Michael B. Jordan is making directorial debut as he has been roped in to direct Creed III for MGM.
The actor will also be reprising his role as Adonis ‘Donnie’ Johnson Creed on top of directing the venture. He will be producing the film as the film is set to premiere on November 23, 2022.
People’s Sexiest Man Alive also took to his social media to share the news as he shared an article on his Instagram stories. He wrote, “Excited is an understatement!” The actor also made a statement that directing has always been an aspiration but the timing was never right.
Michael added that Creed III is that time in his life where he has grown more sure of who he is. He said, “Creed III is that moment—a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment.”
The Black Panther alum shared that this franchise, in particular the themes of Creed III is deeply personal to him. He added that he looks forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story. The actor said, “This franchise and in particular the themes of Creed III are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the same responsibility of being its director and namesake.”
Michael Dethroned John Legend To Become The Sexiest Man Alive
Not only that, even Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad are also expected to reprise their roles. The Creed franchise takes place in the universe that is created by Sylvester Stallone in his own Rocky film franchise. However, it is confirmed yet if Sylvester will be returning to Creed III.
Creed was directed by Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler and it debuted in 2015 and followed the story of Jordan Donnie. The character is the son of Apollo Creed and is the rival of Sylvester’s character, Rocky Balboa. It was a successful venture at the box office as it garnered more than $173 million. The second installment of the movie also earned commercial success.
Michael B. Jordan had dethroned John Legend to become People’s Sexiest Man Alive as he joins the long list of A-listers. The announcement was made on November 17 on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Special. Michael revealed himself after the host and the viewers of the show were guessing who it could be. He was dressed in a hazmat suit.
When asked if he is feeling more pressure to maintain his appearance, the actor said the expectation is a little unreasonable. He said, “Just a little bit. But it’s a cool title to have.” Before the announcement, John also shared his pick for his successor. He said he felt ready to pass the throne to someone new after living as the Sexiest Man Alive for 365 days.
“I’ve appreciated the whole experience and I’ve been trying to have a lot of fun with it, but I’m so ready to relinquish this title,” the singer-songwriter shared in an interview with People.
Michael Says Getting The Honor is a ‘Cool Feeling’
The singer also reflected on the internet’s reaction and had one contender in mind after that. He shared how if he goes by his Twitter mentions when he was named, he came across a lot of people saying Jason Momoa should have been picked over him. The singer recalled, “That’s the one person that stood out in the Twitter feedback.”
Before John took the throne, his fellow judge from The Voice, Blake Shelton was named as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. He addressed the dethroning of him by John on the 2019 CMA Awards red carpet. The Voice judge said, “I don’t know about this guy. He’s starting to piss me off a little bit. He took my Voice championship trophy, now he’s taking my Sexiest Man Alive magazine cover away. It must be good to be John Legend, ya know?”
Michael is best known for his critically-acclaimed performances in Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther. He told People magazine in an issue out Friday that the honor is a ‘cool feeling.’
“You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you´re probably not going to get’,” he said. ‘But it’s a good club to be a part of.”
Previous titleholders include Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, David Beckham, and Chris Hemsworth.
