Kevin Feige Talks Future of WandaVision & MCU

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio’s boss revealed his plans on Wednesday for his first-ever TCA panel. He opened up on the set of Ms. Marvel, which is one of the many series that will be launched by Disney+.

His studio has 10 Disney+ shows that are all lined up for the next few years as he revealed that Ms. Marvel will conclude filming soon. The next venture, She-Hulk will soon start filming in a few week’s time with Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight following shortly after.

At the time, Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting the conclusion of WandaVision which is Marvel’s first Disney+ series. The show currently has only two episodes left and it is alleged to begin the MCU’s Phase 4 as per fan theories. Marvel has not revealed its plans for continuing its Disney+ series beyond their first season.

However, Kevin has confirmed that some of the shows will be lasting longer. When it comes to WandaVision, season 2 is not on the mind of Kevin as it will feed into the feature film: Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The movie is expected to release on March 25th 2022 and it also includes Elizabeth Olsen’s, Wanda Maximoff.

Kevin shared that when they start with a movie, they hope there is a part two or three. However, he said they aren’t factoring that into part 1. The showrunner also shared that since he has been with Marvel too long, there can never be a definite yes or no to anything regarding WandaVision season two.

“The shows are not inexpensive.”

“Some of the shows that I mentioned that we are about to start filming, we are keeping in mind a structure that would lead into a season two or a season three in a more direct way compared to a show like WandaVision that goes into a feature,” said Feige.

Marvel will be releasing its second series with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s Falcon & The Winter Soldier. The series is set to premiere on March 18 on Disney+. Kevin revealed that the series will consist of six, roughly one-hour episodes. He also noted that six hours is the sweet spot the studio has found for their series.

However, for WandaVision it meant nine shorter episodes of roughly 30 minutes. “The shows are not inexpensive,” said Feige. “The per-episode cost is high to get that bar.”

The showrunner has maintained that Marvel Studios has not felt the need to delve into R-rated territory. After Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which brought Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin and Disney’s Bob Iger have confirmed that the property will still remain R-rated and the studio is currently developing Deadpool 3. However, Kevin said Deadpool 3 will be the exception to the rule.

“We have never been held back by it,” Feige said of sticking to PG-13 ratings. “If we ever are, then certainly there could be a discussion to be had …. but that just hasn’t been the case yet.”
