In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kelly Clarkson revealed that she does not want to go in detail about her divorce with Brandon Blackstock.
Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon back in March after nearly seven years of marriage. The pair shares two children with each other, 6-year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington. Brandon already has two kids from his previous marriage.
The singer described herself as an open person, however, she says she will not truly open up about the divorce because there are kids involved. She said, “I think that I will navigate a way in which to be open and honest about it eventually, probably via the show, and it’ll probably, I’m assuming, happen organically when someone says something in conversation or something. It definitely wouldn’t be planned.”
Kelly said there are a lot of little hearts involved in the scenario. She said, “Imagine how it is in the epicenter of the storm.” The singer said it is a lot to process, even as a family. She added because it is not just her, she won’t go too deep into it.
However, Kelly feels grateful to have a musical outlet to express her feelings. She revealed that she told her therapist how she has no idea how someone deals with a big change, like a divorce, without an outlet.
The singer explained, “I am very lucky. Even from my childhood, my mom told me I had a problem expressing my emotions; and all these things when I was really young and that I should start writing. So that’s me expressing it. I usually leave it in the songs and that’s usually my therapy.”
“I did not want this job”- Kelly
The mother-of-two revealed that she has her good and bad days during quarantine, just like other people. She explained how some days are fine and she is laughing about it in a dark comedy kind of way. While other times she is so low that she does not know if she can pick herself up.
She continued, “And then there are other times when you’re like, ‘OK, a fresh start.’ … I’m incapable of not incorporating it into my music because that is my outlet.”
Kelly has been keeping herself busy even during these times. She has continued to work on her daytime talk show, she is preparing for the new season of The Voice. The singer even filled in for Simon Cowell as a judge in America’s Got Talent after her bike accident.
The singer’s show, The Kelly Clarkson Show has been a superhit which earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host. She also talked about her talk show in the interview.
Kelly revealed that she did not want the job at the beginning. She says it was the dream she didn’t know she had because she has talked to so many people, not just celebrities.
The singer said, “I’ve talked to the people that have been hit hardest in all of this; financially, emotionally, mentally … it’s really the everyday people on this show that have just lifted my spirits when I’ve been feeling like, ‘Oh my God, nothing else could possibly go wrong at this point, like, send in the locusts.'”
She further explained that she is trying to smile and light up America and go drown in a creek next to her. The talk show host explained, “I do remember, right before then, I was like: ‘Look, at some point, people in the limelight are humans too; and we’re all going through the same roller coaster as everyone else.”
Kelly said sometimes she does not want to smile and she was honest about it. She said it does not matter who we are and it is all relative to our own world.
