Katherine Heigl Revealed If She’d Ever Return to Grey’s Anatomy

Katherine Heigl answered a long-standing question related to Grey’s Anatomy. She was asked if she will ever reprise her role and return to the hit medical drama.

The actress is someone who believes in the “never say never” concept. She used to play Izzie Stevens in the show and revealed during an interview if she will ever return. The actress responded saying she does not know as she left the door open for a possible return to Grey’s Anatomy.

She answered, “You know, I just, I don’t know”. The actress was promoting her new Netflix drama, Firefly Lane. She was one of the main characters on Grey’s Anatomy which was created by Shonda Rhimes.  The actress had left the show mid-way through the sixth season.

However, she found herself in the middle of a behind-the-scenes drama. Back in 2008, Katherine withdrew her name from Emmy consideration and that is when the whole controversy began. She had said she did not feel she was given the material this season to earn her an Emmy nomination.

The actress added that in order to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, she withdrew her name. she said, “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention.”

“I was really embarrassed.”

Katherine further added that she did not want to take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials. Shonda did not take the actress’s comments to heart, while the actress felt horrible. She had shared how embarrassed she is.

The actress said that she had been to Shonda at the time and apologized. She said, “I was really embarrassed. I went in to [showrunner] Shonda [Rhimes] and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool, and I should not have said that.’ And I shouldn’t have said anything publicly.”

The actress revealed in 2016 on The Howard Stern Show that she thought at the time that nobody would notice. She shared that she quietly did not submit and then it became a story. The former Grey’s Anatomy star revealed how she felt obligated to make her statement and that she should have just shut up.

Fans might not see Katherine’s character scrubbing in on one of those surgeries along with her former co-stars. However, she expressed how she is “incredibly grateful” for her new role as Tully Hart in Netflix’s new drama, Firefly Lane.

“Every single one of us has probably had that experience, where you try and stand up for something, or put your foot down about something, or if you’re hysterical or difficult, or being a bitch — that didn’t exist on this set,” Katherine said during Daily Pop, admitting, “There was none of that and you felt really protected and I’m incredibly grateful for the experience, it was phenomenal.”

The Netflix venture is based on Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel of the same name. The new series revolves around the story of Tully and Kate Mularkey, played by Sarah Chalke. The characters meet each other as young girls on Firefly Lane as they become inseparable during 30 years.
