Justin Bieber Opens American Music Awards With Shawn Mendes

Justin Bieber took to the stage of this year’s American Music Awards and performed two of his superhit songs. Not only that the singer was later on joined by Shawn Mendes, with whom he recently collaborated.

The singer performed his recent hit, Lonely and Holy and inaugurated the awards show. After that he was accompanied by Shawn to perform their collaboration Monster.

Justin was nominated for four awards at the 48^th annual awards event. He was nominated for Artist of the Year, Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Collaboration od the Year and Favourite Song- Country. The Yummy singer has been previously nominated 22 times and won 15 awards in the past 10 years.

The very recent release of the singer was a collaboration with Shawn called Monster. The new song is part of Shawn’s latest album, Wonder, which will be released on December 4.

As speculated, Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes collaborated to release a new song. The new track is called, Monster and it marked the first time the two musicians have worked together.

Both the artists have previously hinted that they might be collaborating together for a single. The song was released at midnight on Friday and is featured as a part of Shawn’s upcoming album, Wonder.

Shawn initiates the song as he sings about being pedestal, “You put me on a pedestal and tell me I’m the best / Raise me up to the sky until I’m out of breath / Fill me up with confidence, I say what’s in my chest / Spill my words and tear me down until there’s nothing left / Rearrange the pieces just to fit me with the rest, yeah.”

Shawn Talks About His Relationship With Justin

Justin joins the singer and adds, “I was fifteen when the world put me on a pedestal / I had big dreams shows and making memories / Made some bad moves trying to act cool, upset by their jealously / Lifting me up (Lifting me up), lifting me up (Yeah).”

The two musicians had shared the news of their collaboration back on Monday by sharing the same instrumental. “#MONSTER Nov 20th @shawnmendes,” Bieber captioned his post. Mendes echoed him on his own account, adding that the tune is the “next single from #WONDER.”

Shawn had revealed about his equation with the Yummy singer in an interview with Zane Lowe. He shared that the song has resonated with him but it never found its way out. The singer added that he was listening to the song suddenly and it started his relationship with Justin.

ABC and Dick Clark Productions had announced about Justin’s performance at the AMAs as they teased fans on social media. “The #AMAs were feeling a little lonely… so we invited @justinbieber to perform,” the show’s official Twitter page read on Tuesday, November 17.

Justin has been performing time and again as he was busy with the People’s Choice Awards in November and won the award for Favourite Male Artist. Earlier that week, he made his Country Music Association Awards debut to sing “10,000 Hours” alongside Dan + Shay on November 11. He was also nominated for three awards at the show.
