Shawn Mendes Reveals He Was On The Verge Of Ruining His Relationship With Camila Cabello

Shawn Mendes is giving us a lot of details about his relationship with Camila Cabello. His personal growth has been immense since he is with his girlfriend.

The singer opened up in an Apple Music Interview with Zane Lowe. He revealed how he thought himself to be sensitive and open about his battles with anxiety before. However, he shared how through his romance with Camila, he has discovered he wasn’t as vulnerable as he wanted to be.

“I went through a month where I couldn’t really even communicate with her because I was struggling with anxiety, and I didn’t want her to see me weak,” the 22-year-old “Wonder” singer said. He further shared how he was on the verge of ruining his relationship with her.

He explained after going through it you can tell the person you are struggling and it is hard for you to say this to them. The singer further said, “And everything starts building and growing and getting stronger, and the roots fortify, and you look around, and you’re like, ‘Oh, s–t.’ Bravery. That’s bravery. That’s strength.”

Shawn revealed how appreciating himself has been the key to their successful relationship. He shared how one cannot be the best version of a son, brother, boyfriend, or friend to anybody if one is not there for themselves. The singer said it is about watching out for yourselves, checking in on your heart, your space, and your energy.

The Stitches singer further shared how he and Camila started giving themselves more time which allowed them to give everything more time and space. He also shared that this is the first time he has fallen in love and the support of Camila in life enables him to see where it can lead.

“It really allows you to be like, ‘Okay, well, if I’m going to do this, I might as well be doing it for the right reasons and really, really, really enjoying it,'” the “If I Can’t Have You” vocalist said. “Otherwise, I’d just rather watch movies with you all day.”

Shawn dealt with some tough times at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic just like all of us. The singer faced uncertainty regarding his tour and making new music.

However, in an exclusive sneak peek of his interview with Zane Lowe, the singer opened up about the silver lining during those difficult times. He described how the pandemic, the isolation, and the quarantine has been terrifying and hard. But the singer also said that something really beautiful came out of it.

Shawn said, “but something really beautiful for me came out of it, which was you’re not allowed to leave. Stillness.” He further revealed that he had been to Miami and was living with Camila Cabello and her parents, sister. The singer shared how he felt panic thinking he is not going to be able to make the album.

He continued, “And then when I started to settle into how nice it is to be in the same place every night, to have a movie time, to cook dinner with the family and to do laundry. I know it sounds really kind of silly but when you’ve been touring the world since you’re 15 years old, like, I don’t remember the last time I smelled laundry. It’s a nice smell. It’s a really calming smell. It feels like growing up.”

“This Is Art. This Is Bigger Than Me.”

Shawn shared how this also allowed him to be creative and start from the beginning of his album. The singer’s upcoming album ‘Wonder’ is his fourth studio album. It is about honest reflections after growing in more ways.

He shared how that stillness also brought a lot of anxiety for him that he had to work through. However, he revealed how on the other side of that was a reflective period for him. The singer said, “on the other side of that was a really reflective period for me where I could be like, ‘Oh this is what I’ve been doing.  This is crazy. But this is what I can do. This is art. This is bigger than me.”

Shawn added that it was the first time he had the chance to think about someone more than himself. He talked about how it was the first time he had enough space in his heart and head. The singer shared, “It was the first time I had enough space in my heart and my head that wasn’t so consumed about how many people were caring about what I was doing.”

He further shared how it was the first time he was quiet and could be like, “‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?’” The singer shared how this was the best gift he has ever been given in his whole life.
