Jim Carrey Says Ex-Girlfriend, Renée Zellweger, Was His “Last Great Love”

It’s been 20 years since Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger’s short lived romance. The Mask actor recently revealed that after all these years, Renne still holds a special place in his heart.

The Actor duo first met in 1999 on the set of Me, Myself & Irene and dated for a year before breaking up in 2000. In a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show, on SiriusXM, Stern brought up Carrey’s new semi-fictional book.

Memoirs and Misinformation: A Novel, is reportedly based on the actor’s real life. In his biography, Jim spoke candidly about his relationship with Renée and Howard himself was shocked by the revelation. It prompted Stern to ask Jim how sincere he was in writing that Renee was his “last great love.”

“She definitely was special to me, very special”

Though the book is semi-fictional and tells the story of the Jim Carrey persona, the actor told Howard that there is indeed some truth to his proclamation.

“She definitely was special to me, very special, I think she’s lovely,” Carrey, said. Howard then wondered if Jim felt like Renée was “the one that got away,” in a sense.

“I don’t pine for anybody”

“I don’t regret, I don’t have those things, but I do appreciate the people that have come through my life for the good that they gave me,” the actor continued. “But, I don’t pine for anybody. It’s not that kind of situation. It’s just my way of saying, ‘There was a very important thing there,’ and to recognize that.”

“She’s real in that way and I absolutely love it”

Back when they were dating, Carrey revealed in an interview that his relationship with Zellweger helped keep him grounded. “She’s a very connected person. She thinks having a good time is renting a U-Haul and taking furniture to Texas. He added, “She’s real in that way and I absolutely love it.”

Carrey has even previously confessed that he felt an immediate “chemical” connection to Zellweger. For her part, Renee admitted it took her a second to really want to be with him. And it all happened after filming wrapped.

“Wow, I really miss him”

“It was a very unexpected, wonderful thing,” the Bridget Jones’ Diary star said in June 2000. “It was just a really natural thing to want to be around each other. And we didn’t see each other for a few months after we finished the picture, or really speak even. I just noticed his absence significantly. It just felt like, ‘Wow, I really miss him.’”

Past Relationships

Carrey was previously married to Melissa Womer from 1987 to 1995 and they share one daughter, singer, Jane Carrey. He then married Lauren Holly from 1996 to 1997. In 2005, The Dumb and Dumber star also dated Jenny McCarthy, but that ended in 2010. The actor also dated the late Cathriona White in 2012. He was recently seeing actress, Ginger Gonzaga in 2019, but the two split up.

Meanwhile, Zellweger briefly married Kenny Chesney in May 2005 but annulled the union two months later. From 2009 to 2011 she dated actor Bradley Cooper.

She got into a relationship with musician, Doyle Bramhall II in 2012, but the couple ended things in 2019 as well .
