Home Alone Reboot Is Still Happening Despite Delays

Kenan Thompson has revealed that the Home Alone reboot is still taking place even after the numerous delays. Disney+ first announced the reboot of Chris Columbus’ superhit 1990 film back in 2019.

They stated that the story will focus on a new kid called Max, played by Archie Yates. Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney will be facing off against the child as he steals a priceless heirloom to save his family from financial misery. The cast also includes Saturday Night Live stars Kenan, Chris Parnell, and Mikey Day, who co-wrote the screenplay with fellow SNL writer Streeter Seidell.

The new Home Alone is produced by Dan Mazer, who is a longtime collaborator of Sacha Baron Cohen. He will have to match the high bar that Chris has set in his original movie redefined what a family comedy should be. Home Alone is still considered to be one of the most beloved movies of all time. Dan had started principal photography, however, it did not last long because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Disney announced that they had resumed filming back in November much to fans’ delight. According to one of the film stars, the new Home Alone is finally back on track. Kenan revealed as he answered a fan question about the status of the highly-anticipated project. He said, “It was a long shoot. It started in Canada and got shut down and then came back around because of the pandemic. It’s been very splotchy as far as trying to get it done is concerned. I think they’re getting very close to finishing it. I did ADR for it recently, so that’s usually one of the last steps. So, it’s coming out.”

He was first announced to be a part of the film back in July last year. By the looks of the cast, it seems safe to assume that the reboot will be amping up the comedy. Chris has been pretty vocal about his disapproval of the Disney version of his iconic hits.
