Cody Simpson is finally ready to open up about his public and whirlwind romance with the former Disney star, Miley Cyrus.
The former couple dated for almost a year before they decided to go their separate ways in August 2020. They have remained silent about the reason for their split but now, Cody has decided to share a rare insight into why they decided to break up. He spoke to Australia’s 60 minutes and opened up about the split.
The musician explained that he and Miley felt their relationship had run its course. He revealed he had known her for a long time as he acknowledged his history with the Midnight Sky singer. Cody said, “I’d known her for a long time at that point, not like a mentor but always a very hyper-creative person.”
He further revealed that they went from being good friends to having a lot of the same friends and then being together for some time. The musician further continued that everything ended “fairly amicably” and it was one of those phases. He said, “We went from being good friends to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while. everything ended fairly amicably, and it was just one of those phases, I guess. You go through [it] and you learn a lot from it.”
Miley had discussed her love life in August as well as her divorce from Liam Hemsworth. The singer had revealed at the time that a year ago, the media tried to control her narrative and tell her story. She refused to accept that as she referred to her split from Liam in an Instagram Live.
“Just don’t make it something that it is not. And with that being said, I’m done with the bulls–t.”
She then discussed her and Cody’s breakup, sharing, “So today, it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up. It was confirmed by a ‘reliable source’ even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the two individuals that are participating in it.”
Miley further shared that two halves cannot make a whole; and they are individually working on themselves to become the people they want to be. The musician continued that like everyone else, they are just deciding who they want to be in their lives and what they want to do. She urged people to not make it a dramatic story if they are hanging out next week or getting a pizza. The Slide-Away singer said that they have been friends for 10 years and they are going to continue to be friends.
As she put it, “Just don’t make it something that it is not. And with that being said, I’m done with the bulls–t”. The former couple has already moved on from their romance; as Cody is focusing on his career in swimming and is dating model Marloes Stevens. They appear to be going strong so far. Miley is continuing to enjoy her single life and prioritizing her epic musical journey.
