Avengers: Endgame Co-Director Comments On Reported MCU Return

Avengers: Endgame’s Joe Russo has revealed that he might possibly return to the MCU. Both Joe and Anthony Russo have been tied with the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2014 for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

They were then roped in to direct Captain America: Civil War in 2016 because of the great reception to the previous release. Undoubtedly, even this was a hit that convinced Marvel Studios that the Russo brothers will wrap up the Infinity Saga.

Along with writer Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the Russo brothers started their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. While taking on the projects was an exciting prospect, it also came with a lot of pressure, especially given the MCU’s track record.

They eventually delivered on that promise as well. It’s no surprise, however, that fans were ecstatic when news came that they were in talks to return to the brand. Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow’s same-day release in theatres and Disney+, however, stalled it.

Many people are asking how the Russos’ alleged talks are proceeding now that everything has been settled. Joe sat down with Variety to discuss the situation with Scarlett Johansson and Disney’s lawsuit. But he was also asked about the current resolution and what it signifies for their possible return to the MCU.

Will The Russo Brothers Direct A Secret Invasion Series?

He said, “it would be inappropriate for us to comment on a deal if we were in the middle of it.” Because of this, he did not provide any information on the subject. The Russo brothers are currently working on two projects. The first is The Gray Man, an action thriller in which they reconnect with Chris Evans.

They also have a Netflix film starring Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Wagner Moura, and Rege-Jean Page. The venture is in post-production but there is no word on when it will premiere on the streaming platform. They will also be returning to TV by directing the Amazon Studios spy drama Citadel which will premiere in February 2022.

Unless they have other projects in the works that they haven’t revealed yet, scheduling may not be a problem. The MCU has a schedule set to run until at least 2023 so the Russo brothers will have plenty of time. After everything they have accomplished with Infinity War and Endgame, it is understandable that Marvel would bring them back into the MCU.

Do you think there will be any projects they are considering for a future collaboration? The Russo brothers had previously stated that they were interested in adapting Secret Wars for the big screen.
