Anya Taylor-Joy has been super busy as she is filming for her latest venture which is a David O. Russell movie. She is also busy grabbing up nominations for awards.

The actress revealed recently that she was not aware of when the Golden Globe nominations were to be announced. She shared that she woke up on February 3rd to a storm of calls and texts which only made her brace for the worst. The Queen’s Gambit actress shared her immediate thought when she noticed all the calls and texts.

“My immediate thought was, ‘Who died?'” says the 24-year-old actress. “It was actually wonderful news. It was a lovely surprise — and pretty surreal.” However, her nomination did not just limit to her highly appreciated Netflix series, The Queen’s Gambit.

The actress also got nominated for Focus’ Emma as the next day she earned a SAG award nomination for her limited series on Netflix. When asked what she found similar within the two characters that she played, she responded describing it as sounding bizarre.

Anya said, “This is going to sound bizarre because it’s very obvious, but the throughline is me.” She shared how she never had a year like that where she knew who she would be playing every single day of the year. The actress revealed how she knew exactly the day she had between shedding a character and becoming another one.

“I was so passionate about all of the projects, so I really couldn’t let them go.”

The Emma alum further shared she had a day between Emma and Last Night in Soho by Edgar Wright. She further shared she had two days between that and Queen’s Gambit. The actress said, “I was so passionate about all of the projects, so I really couldn’t let them go. I do think the timing was perfect because it was right to play Emma before playing Sandy and Beth.”

Anya described the character of Beth as she said the character would have been different if she didn’t have the growth that she experienced playing the other two characters first.

She was then questioned how she shed a character in just 24 hours. The actress described the process as painful as she revealed that one just has to dive in. She revealed that everybody thought she was crazy and they all asked her what she was doing. The actress said, “Everybody thought I was crazy. Every single person on each of those projects said, ‘What are you doing?’ But I said, ‘These characters are amazing. I can’t not do this.’”

Anya was then asked about her favorite look among Emma and The Queen’s Gambit. She shared that there is a replica of a necklace that Jane Austen’s brother gave to her. the actress further added how the character of Emma wears that and she calls it the “Death Star”.

She shared, “I have a lot of love for the Death Star. With Queen’s Gambit, it’s probably a pair of black high-waisted pants, which I still wear. And I loved the blue trench coat that she first steals the bottle of vodka with.”

She revealed, “Wake up at 1 a.m., get hair and makeup done, and sit down in front of my computer.”
