Dr Dre’s ex-wife Nicole Young wants ‘$2million a month in temporary spousal support’ amid bitter divorce battle
There has been an update in the ongoing divorce of mogul, Dr. Dre and his estranged wife Nicole Young.
An Additional $5 Million?
In a recent turn of events, Young has filed new court documents, at the Los Angeles court, seeking for a whopping $2 million a month in temporary spousal support from the rapper. And that’s not all. In addition to the staggering amount, Young is also asking for an additional $5 million to cover her legal fees that she’s spent on the divorce. Which she filed on June 29 earlier this year.
Irreconcilable differences and the Prenuptial Agreement
Dre and Nicole, who have been married since 1996, announced that they were officially parting ways after 24 long years together. In the June 29 documents, Nicole cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. The former couple share two kids together. Son Truice, 23, and daughter Truly, 19. Since both their kids are over the age of 18, a custody battle won’t be an issue.
In her initial petition, Nicole, who is represented by high-powered celeb attorney, Samantha Spector, requested for the division of their multi-million-dollar properties along with spousal support.
Dr. Dre responded to her petition by agreeing to pay spousal support. However, he added that division of assets should be governed by the couple’s prenuptial agreement. The former N.W.A. member and Young have now been at odds over the prenup, which Young made no mention of, in her petition.
Dre tore up the Prenup as a sign of deep love: Nicole
Young, who was previously wed to NBA player, Sedale Threatt, recently came forward claiming that she did in fact sign a prenup ‘under pressure’ in 1996 before they tied the knot. However, Nicole insists that the rapper tore it up years later as a sign of his deep love for her. Therefore stating that the prenup is no longer valid. Dre, on the other hand, denied the incident and informed the court that his estranged wife signed the document, which still remains in effect.
Nicole, who is a lawyer herself, asked the judge to bifurcate the issues surrounding the couple’s prenup. In other words, to put the issue of a prenup behind them before proceeding with the divorce.
Young might get half of Dre’s $800M fortune
The rapper wants the prenup enforced since Young is now asking for a part of the fortune he has amassed over the years. If the court decides to see it Young’s way, she may get half of his $800M fortune. Which includes everything from music royalties to real estate.
The media mogul earned most of his $800M fortune in his time as an N.W.A member, solo rapper, producer, co-owner of Death Row Records and founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment. Dr Dre also amassed a major fortune from his successful headphone line, Beats By Dr Dre. Which Apple acquired for $3B in 2014. Dre is being represented by high-powered celebrity divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, who filed on his behalf. His paperwork also noted the date of separation as March 27, weeks after the coronavirus lockdown began.
By the looks of her stable lifestyle, Nicole doesn’t need the spousal support
Things seemed to have turned sour between the former couple. In late July, the music mogul, who has since moved into a Brentwood, California home, told the Los Angeles court that Young will not give him back his motorcycle, golf clubs and firearms from the Malibu home they formerly shared. Nicole who still resides in their Malibu house, has access to all their cars, personal chefs and other luxuries.
His legal team noted that he has allowed Young into the Brentwood residence when she went to get her items. And so he now wants her to reciprocate.
According to reports, the 55-year-old music producer plans to argue that his ex does not need anywhere close to $2 million a month in spousal support. Especially since, her quality of life has not changed since filing for divorce in July.
