Dr. Dre and Nicole young file for divorce after 24 years of marriage

Dr. Dre, popular rapper and media mogul, and wife, Nicole Young are separating after a long marriage of 24 years. Young filed for divorce on Monday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The couple are now separating on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. Dr. Dre and Young have two adult children, 23-year-old son Truice and 19-year-old daughter Truly.

Nicole Young, 50, who cited irreconcilable differences, is seeking spousal support from the 55-year-old Dr. Dre. The couple got married on May 25, 1996, but it looks like things have turned sour. Nicole is being represented by high-powered attorney Samantha Spector. Spector, a popular celeb attorney, has also helped other Hollywood stars including Jenna Dewan and Amber Heard. Before Dr. Dre, Nicole was previously married to NBA player Sedale Threatt.

The couple doesn’t have a prenuptial agreement

It is reported the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement. This could make splitting the hip-hop mogul’s multi million-dollar fortune quite the undertaking. Dr. Dre, 55, is worth an estimated $800 million, according to Forbes. Forbes has consistently included Dre on its list of the world’s wealthiest hip-hop artists.

Born Andre Romelle Young, the rapper rose to fame from the streets of Compton in the 1980s in the groundbreaking gangsta rap group N.W.A. The six-time Grammy Award winner built his empire as a music producer with Death Row Records. He is the founder and chief executive of Aftermath Entertainment. Dre later co-founded Beats Electronics, the high-end headphone and speaker company. He sold that company to Apple Inc. in 2014 for $3 million, just as he declared himself the “first billionaire in hip-hop.”

The mogul also co-founded the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. He made it possible with a joint $70-million donation in 2013. Dre is also a dad to four kids. Daughters Tyra Young and La Tanya Danielle Young as well as sons Marcel and Curtis, from previous relationships. His Son, Andre Young Jr. died at the age of  20 in 2008 due to a drug overdose.
