Nicole Young Claims Dr. Dre ‘TORE UP’ Their Prenup Decades Ago As ‘Grand Gesture’ Of Love

There has been a recent update in the ongoing divorce of mogul, Dr. Dre and his estranged wife, Nicole Young. After spending decades together, Nicole Young filed for divorce from Dr. Dre, in June, citing irreconcilable differences. Dre responded to his estranged wife’s petition by claiming that the division of assets should be governed by the couple’s prenuptial agreement. Which was not mentioned in her petition.

Young has now come forward claiming that she did in fact sign a prenup ‘under pressure’ in 1996 before they tied the knot. However, the lawyer insists that the rapper tore it up years later as a sign of his deep love for her. Therefore stating that the prenup is no longer valid.

Young does not want the prenup enforced

According to legal documents, Nicole Young is asking a judge to bifurcate the issues surrounding the couple’s prenup. In other words, to put the issue of a prenup behind them before proceeding with the divorce.

In the filing, Young says the reason she is going to court is because she does not want the prenup enforced, but Dre does. If the court sees it her way, she may get half of his $800M fortune. Which includes everything from music royalties to real estate.

Dr Dre earned most of his $800M fortune from his successful headphone line, Beats By Dr Dre. Which Apple acquired for $3B in 2014. Young stated in the documents that she and Dre should split all assets, which would leave her with around $400M.

“I was extremely reluctant, resistant and afraid”

In her declaration, Young explains that before she tied the knot, “I was extremely reluctant, resistant and afraid to sign the agreement and felt backed into a corner. Given the extraordinary pressure and intimidation by Andre, I was left with no option but to hire a lawyer. And I unwillingly signed the agreement very shortly before our marriage.”

“He tore up multiple copies of the agreement in front of me”

She then says 2 years into the marriage, “Andre acknowledged to me that he felt ashamed he had pressured me into signing a premarital agreement. And he tore up multiple copies of the agreement in front of me. Since the day he tore up the agreements, we both understood that there was no premarital agreement. That it was null and void.” With that in mind, Nicole says she spent the next 24 years of her life with the rapper, believing there was no prenup.

Sources are claiming something entirely different

However, sources connected to Dre beg to differ, claiming that he never expressed shame over the prenup. He never tore it up or said it was invalid. In fact, sources have revealed that Nicole had her own lawyer and she had a clear choice on whether to sign or not.

Dre has made it clear right from the start, he is willing to pay for spousal support and all her expenses. However, Young is now asking for half of the fortune he has amassed over the years. And hence the rapper insists that the prenup be followed. There are no issues with child support, as the couple’s children are all adults.

Dre, who is also the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics, married Nicole Young in 1996. While it was Dre’s first marriage, Young was previously married to NBA player, Sedale Threatt. The pair share two adult children together, daughter Truly Young, 19, and son Truice Young, 23. The rapper also has four children from previous relationships.

Dre is being represented by high-powered celebrity divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, who filed on his behalf. His paperwork also noted the date of separation as March 27, weeks after the coronavirus lockdown began.

Young, who is a lawyer herself, is being represented by high-powered celeb attorney Samantha Spector. Spector has represented a number of notable clients like Jenna Dewan and Amber Heard.
