Doja Cat Contracted COVID-19 Months After She Said She Wasn’t ‘Scared’ of the Virus

Doja Cat has revealed that she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and has since recovered. The news comes just weeks after she publicly mocked people who were concerned about the global pandemic.

The Say So artist, whose real name is, Amalaratna Zandile Dlamini, confirmed that she had contracted the virus during an interview with Yinka and Shayna Marie on Capital XTRA on Friday. Doja did reveal that she has since recovered from the virus, which she previously claimed not being afraid of.

“I don’t know how I got it but I got it”

“I got COVID. Honestly, I don’t know how this happens but I guess I ordered something off of Postmates. And I don’t know how I got it but I got it,” she explained. The 24 year old singer revealed, ‘I’m okay now. It was a four day symptom freak out but I’m fine now.’

“Y’all are so scared of some damn corona”

Back in March, Doja Cat stirred up controversy during an Instagram Live when she poked fun of people who were concerned about the pandemic in an expletive-filled rant. In early March, as the virus was spreading across the world, the singer went live on Instagram to mock what she thought was unwarranted hysteria and paranoia.

She defiantly said: ‘I’m not scared of a coronavirus or the m********** beer version of that s**t. I’m gonna get corona and then I’m gonna get a Corona. Cause I don’t give a f*** about corona, b****.

It’s a flu! I’m not scared. Y’all are p******, period. You just take some Mucinex and drink water and tea and sleep. That’s all you gotta do. Y’all are so scared of some damn corona. Y’all are so scared of corona that I need a Corona.’

The singer later told Capital XTRA that she has since been taking the pandemic seriously. “It’s been alright,” she said. “I stay home.”

Messy Controversies: Racial Slurs,Tinychat Rooms…

Doja has lately been quite the poster child for controversies. She embroiled herself in quite a mess last month when she defended herself after participating in alleged alt-right Tinychat rooms. She made headlines again in May after critics called her out for using a racist slur in the title of a resurfaced 2015 song.

The singer specially has a reputation of saying the wrong things on her Instagram lives, that usually end up enraging the viewers. Amid these controversies, The singer did just that.

Doja took to her Instagram live on a rant, defending her ‘friends’, who, ‘aren’t racist in chat rooms.’ She went on, “My friends on Tinychat aren’t white supremacists. They love me. I love them. They’re loving and that’s it!” Doja exclaimed. The songstress even went on to call her viewers ridiculous, stupid and a couple of expletive slurs.

Doja eventually apologised for her insensitive comments.”I want to address what’s been happening on Twitter,” she wrote on her Instagram. “I’ve used public chat rooms to socialize since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sites, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone I offended.” The star added, “I am a black woman. Half of my family is black from South Africa and I’m very proud of where I come from.”

However, Fans did notice that the singer hadn’t apologised for her very public use of homophobic slurs to attack rappers, Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt back in 2015.

Doja Cat has since joined a long list of celebrities who tested positive for Covid-19 and have since recovered. Namely, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Anna Camp, Karol G and many others.
