Anna Camp Reveals She Contracted COVID-19 the ‘One Time’ She Didn’t Wear a Mask

Actress Anna Camp recently took to social media to open up about her battle with Covid-19, in an effort to encourage fans to wear a face mask.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the Pitch Perfect actress explained how she contracted the virus after not wearing a mask “one time” in the beginning, “when the world was starting to open up.”

“I was extremely sick for over three weeks”

The actress begins her note addressing her diagnosis. “Hi friends. I felt it was my responsibility to share that I ended up getting Covid-19. I have since tested negative, but I was extremely sick for over three weeks and still have lingering symptoms. I was incredibly safe, I wore a mask, I used hand sanitizer. One time, when the world was starting to open up, I decided to forgo wearing my mask in public. One. Time. And I ended up getting it. I believe it may have been because of that one time,” she explained.

“The long term irreparable damage it does to your immune system is unbelievably stressful”

Camp was particular about stressing on the fact that the coronavirus shouldn’t be mistaken for a flu, and that wearing a mask is ultimately what would help save lives.

“People are saying it’s like having the flu, but I’ve had the flu, and this is absolutely not that. The panic of contracting a virus that is basically untreatable is so new, that no one knows that the long term irreparable damage it does to your immune system is unbelievably stressful.”

Listing out her Symptoms

The actress went on to list her symptoms, which included, “Completely losing my sense of smell and taste without knowing when or even if they will return is extremely disorienting.” She added that after feeling “extremely sick for over three weeks,” her sense of smell is only back up to 30% of what it used to be.

Camp said she has been dealing with other “persistent symptoms” like, “dizziness, extreme fatigue, impacted sinuses, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, and fever,” for over a month now.

The actress who is still quite grateful, voiced aloud, that she considered herself still fortunate. “I’m lucky. Because I didn’t die. But people are,” she wrote. “Please wear ur mask. It can happen any time. And it can happen to anyone. Even that one time you feel safe. We can all make a difference. Wearing a mask is saving lives.”

She ended her note thanking those who have reached out to check on her “during this scary time,” and urged fans to be safe and wear their masks.

“Please be safe out there. Let’s all do our part and wear a mask,” she added. “I don’t want any of you to go through what I did. Even though it’s a little thing, it can have a huge impact, and it’s so incredibly easy to do ❤️.”

“It’s given me a chance to slow down”

The Actress, who is spending time in quarantine with her boyfriend, Michael Johnson, also previously talked about how her time in isolation has made her realize new things about herself.

“It’s really made me think about who I am outside of [work]. I have a lot to offer just besides being on a set, doing this song and dance thing and working,” she shared. “It’s given me a chance to slow down and [learn] that life is very precious and not to take things for granted. It’s hard. I definitely am a little antsy, obviously. But it’s also made me just reevaluate things that are really important.”
