Lucy Hale recalls ‘Mortifying’ Fifty Shades Of Grey Audition

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Pretty little liars actress, Lucy Hale, reflected on a particularly awkward audition in her life. Hale revealed that she had auditioned for the role of Anastasia Steele in the 2015 erotic drama, Fifty Shades Of Grey.

“It was good for me because it scared the crap out of me”

“I was very young,” the A Nice Girl Like You star said. “It had to have been, not 10 years ago, it was a while ago and I was mortified.”

“It wasn’t actual scenes from the movie, but it was a very sexually forward monologue and I didn’t really even know what I was saying in the audition,” Hale recalled. “I was a little naive about it all, but yes, I did audition. I obviously didn’t get the part.” But Hale did also say that the audition was beneficial for her, “It was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition like that.”

Hale is one among many big actresses who were linked to the film. Namely, Felicity Jones, Imogen Poots, Ashley Benson and Kristen Stewart. The role of Anastasia eventually went to Dakota Johnson, starring alongside Jamie Dornan. The duo would go on to do three films in the erotic franchise, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

It seems like the audition left quite an impact on Hale as this isn’t the first time the actress has talked about it. Hale has previously spoken about her Fifty Shades audition experience, calling it ‘uncomfortable.’

“It’s exactly what you thought it would be. A big monologue but very, very sexual,” the former Katy Keene star said. “There were some things that I was so embarrassed to be reading out loud. But it’s one of those things where you have to commit wholeheartedly or you’re going to make a fool of yourself.”

Lucy Hale’s latest project is a rom-com, titled, A Nice Girl Like You, that hit the theaters this Friday.

Hale stars as Lucy Neal, an “inhibited” girl who decides to create a sex to-do list after being dumped by her boyfriend. Lucy also revealed that in preparation for the film, she and her costars attended “an actual sex convention,” which Hale described as ‘wild.’ “It was stuff I’d never seen before,” the actress confessed. Lucy has also lately been making headlines for reportedly going on casual dates with bachelor star, Colton Underwood.
