Benjamin Keough, Lisa Marie Presley’s son, dies at 27

Elvis Presley’s grandson and Lisa Marie Presley’s son, Benjamin Keough, died on Sunday in Calabasas, California. The 27 year old is said to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated”

Lisa Marie Presley’s manager Roger Widynowski revealed that Lisa is “beyond devastated” over the death of her son. Roger confirmed the death in a statement. “She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley. She adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”

The ‘Rescue Response’ Call

Police said they responded to a ‘rescue response’ call at about 6:30am Sunday. Mentioning, “Upon their arrival, they located the victim suffering from one gunshot wound to the upper torso. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Sometimes I am overwhelmed when I look at him”

Lisa Marie had her son, Benjamin and actress daughter, Riley Keough, with her ex-husband, Danny Keough. Presley is also mother to 11-year-old twin daughters, Harper and Finley, whom she shares with ex-husband Michael Lockwood.

Lisa has spoken of her son’s similarity to her dad Elvis, even calling their resemblance ‘uncanny’. She said, “Ben does look so much like Elvis. Everybody was grabbing him for a photo because it is just uncanny. Sometimes I am overwhelmed when I look at him.’

‘Mama Lion with cubs’

One of Lisa Marie’s most recent social media posts, which happens to be from June 2019, features the singer with her four children, including Benjamin. Even then, many fans commented on his resemblance to his legendary grandfather.

“Mama Lion with cubs ❤️????????????????????,” Lisa Marie had captioned the post, which showed her son leaning into older sister Riley as the group huddled for a photo.

“I feel a lot closer to him now”

In 2009 Benjamin, who kept a low public profile, was reported to have signed a $5million record deal with Universal. ‘The music will be nothing like Elvis, nothing like him at all,’ he had said in an interview at the time. However, Peter LoFrumento, Executive VP of Universal Music Group, later revealed, ‘This story is totally untrue.’

In 2015, Benjamin, who had a private Instagram, shared a picture of an Elvis outfit he had bought. He wrote, ‘I purchased a piece of grandad today from a collector. He wore it in 1974. I feel a lot closer to him now.’

Matching Tattoos and Inspired Songs

Lisa Marie and Benjamin were said to be so close that, in 2009, the mother and son got matching tattoos for Mother’s Day. Speaking to fans about it on Twitter in May 2012, she said it was “a Celtic eternity knot” that represents “eternal love and connection.”

Ben, whose middle name is Storm, reportedly inspired his mother’s 2012 song Storm & Grace. The song’s lyrics include, “You have the most beautiful heart/ That I’ve ever known/ It kills me you can’t ever show it/ And a shell has been grown.”

In 2012, Keough and all his siblings were featured in the music video for Lisa Marie’s rendition of Elvis’ 1954 hit “I Love You Because.”

Lisa Marie Presley’s Familial History

Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 of a heart attack and use of multiple prescription drugs.

Lisa Marie and her first husband, Danny Keough, were married on October 3, 1988 and divorced on May 6, 1994. The couple had two children together, Benjamin and his sister, the actress Riley Keough.

Lisa then married Michael Jackson just 20 days after her divorce from Danny Keough. In 1996, citing irreconcilable differences, she filed for divorce. Lisa Marie also had a third marriage to Nicolas Cage that lasted two months in 2002.

In 2006 she married Michael Lockwood. Lisa gave birth to their twin girls, Finley and Harper, in 2008. The couple eventually filed for divorce in 2016. They are still engaged in a nasty custody battle over their kids.
