Brie Larson is now a Youtuber!
Brie Larson picked quite the week to join Youtube. We know the actress has made her mark on the silver screen with movies like Captain Marvel and Room. The Oscar-winning actress is now ready to explore a new medium. The 30 year old actress is the latest celebrity to launch her own YouTube platform, and she is definitely excited to connect with her fans.
Youtube welcomed Brie Larson on Thursday, where she posted the first video on her personal channel.
“Why am I starting a YouTube channel?” Larson asks at the beginning of her inaugural video. “YouTube has been a place where I have learned so much. Whether it’s been how to use my printer or it’s been watching how to be a considerate activist. This is the place to talk about things that are important and that matter.” Brie Larson mentioned that she will balance ‘deep conversations’ and ‘anti-racist rhetoric’ with ‘silly content’ for her fans.
“I’ve been hesitant to reveal too much about myself”
“I’m incredibly excited about joining the YouTube family and having the opportunity to share a little bit more about myself through personal videos and stories.” Brie Larson revealed. “For so long the internet perception of me has been through this carefully curated lens of a press day, pegged to a specific project I am promoting. I’ve been hesitant to reveal too much about myself partly out of fear of the unknown, but also because I had this idea that people wouldn’t be able to believe me as other characters. I see my channel as a way to break away from this line of thought. Become more vulnerable and open about my flaws. What I am passionate about and who I actually am.”
Guest Appearances
Larson’s introductory video gives us a glimpse of a wide array of guests who will be making appearances in upcoming videos. She enlisted the help of other famous YouTubers to show her the ropes. A montage of upcoming videos included Swoozie, Lauren Riihimaki, Lilly Singh, Sean Evans and many more.
Brie Larsen doesn’t leave her friends and family out. The actress will be joined by her best friend, Jessie Ennis. Brie’s mother Heather Desaulniers and grandmother Elva Larson are also making a cameo. Brie has interviewed a slew of other YouTube stars such as Justine Ezarik, Juanpa Zurita, Michelle Khare, Connor Franta and Karina Garcia.
She asks them for advice on how to be a successful YouTube personality and how to come up with new ideas. Her guests suggest talking about feelings, creating entertaining sketches, redesigning rooms, directing short films, etc. The main consensus has been that the actress should start with content that interests her.
Brie’s Battle With Social Anxiety
Brie Larson also took time to open up about her experience with social anxiety and being introverted.
“For me, my baseline has been, I’m an introvert with asthma. Like, that’s been my story for myself. I’m introverted, I’m scared, I have social anxiety,” Larson can be heard saying in the video. “And through playing Captain Marvel, that kind of wiped clean those titles I had for myself. It made me go, Woah, I’m not really that anymore.”
“And so, from there I found that speaking out, telling my story, talking about things that I’m scared of, has just helped me so much.” she added.
The actress is definitely excited, yet nervous about her new endeavour. “I’m feeling like I’m gonna pee a little bit, I hope that’s a good thing. I’m feeling nervous. I think that we’re on a train here and we’re going.’
Spilling secrets
In the video, Brie Larson also spills secrets about her career. While chatting with Swoozie, Larson shared that she’d auditioned for films Star Wars, The Hunger Games and The Terminator franchise.
“I actually was thinking about the Terminator reboot today because I got a flat tire. I was like, ‘Oh, the last time I got a flat tire was when I was driving into my audition for Terminator. Got a flat tire at the audition and then didn’t get the job,’” she said.
The actress also shared her love for video games. She revealed how she threw her first boyfriend “out of my house” just trying to win the final level of Super Mario Galaxy.
Political Activism
On a more serious note Brie Larson also got candid about why she wanted to include political activism on her channel.
‘I’m a white woman with privilege and a platform so it just doesn’t make any sense to me to like just make it all about me the whole time,’ said Brie. Larson concluded her video by highlighting Black creators and artists including Mj Rodriguez, Janet Mock and Tessa Thompson and asked her viewers to check out their work and social media pages.
“I’m so excited about this journey”
After dropping her first video, Brie Larson is eager for feedback from her fans. “Leave a comment letting me know which creators I should work with as well. Please! I’m so excited about this journey. Be sure to let me know what you want to see,” she wrote underneath her first video.
The description of her debut video reads, “Thank you for watching my first YouTube video! It was so great learning from all of those who joined. Make sure to follow them ???? Leave a comment letting me know which creators I should work with as well, please! I’m so excited about this journey – be sure to let me know what you want to see. Like or Subscribe if you want. Or don’t. It’s up to you!”
