Which game was the most difficult to film, according to a Squid Game Star

Lee Jung-Jae, star of Squid Game, discusses which of the show’s deadly games was the most challenging to film.

Squid Game is a survival thriller directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk about heavily indebted people who participate in deadly variations of children’s games for a large cash reward. Squid Game has beaten Bridgerton to 111 million viewers worldwide in its first weeks of availability, according to Netflix.

Many have asked why this specific version of the death game genre has resonated so well with viewers, given its impact.

Most difficult game to film

One reason is because of the cast’s performances. Squid Game stars Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung, in addition to Lee, who plays Gi-hun and serves as something of an audience surrogate throughout.

Another is the text, which acts as a commentary on class differences and unfettered capitalism in part. However, a large portion of the appeal is from the concept itself, as it is based on the type of kids’ games that most viewers are familiar with. Except that it’s been given a deadly twist.

In a wide-ranging interview with EW, Lee discusses the popularity of Squid Game and the possibility of a second season, as well as which of the series’ games was the most difficult to film.

The actor specifically mentions two competitions, the first of which is the Honeycomb game. “I had to express with very little movement,” he explained. Nonetheless, he stated that the climactic encounter between Gi-hun and Sang-woo (Park) was the most difficult.

South Korean drama isn’t very comedic

It’s worth noting that, in his response, Lee mentions what is likely the most playful episode of Squid Game, followed by one of the most horrific.

Although the South Korean drama isn’t very comedic, becoming more so as it nears its conclusion, the Honeycomb stretch occurs in episode 3 and is clearly intended to be amusing. To live, Gi-hun and Mi-nyeo (Kim) must utilize their wits and think outside the box. They do, in fact. Things appear to be looking up for a while. Then, as Lee points out in his remarks, Gi-hun is depleted by the end.
