When will the second season of ‘Evil’ be available on Netflix?

Netflix has acquired the Evil licence from CBS, with the first season premiering on Netflix in the United States in October 2020. Season 2 is on the way, but it’s unlikely to be available on Netflix because the show has made a permanent switch.

Before we get into Season 2 of Evil, here’s a quick recap. The TV series follows a group of different trained investigators who investigate paranormal crimes and incidents, explicitly looking into the science behind these experiences, and was created by Michelle and Robert King (the duo behind The Good Wife, which was removed from Netflix some time ago). Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Katja Herbers, Aasif Mandvi, Brooklyn Shuck, and Skylar Gray star in the film.

Season 1 of Evil premiered in September 2019 and was released on Netflix USA on October 1st, 2020 (no other regions were authorized to or expected). The series had a successful debut on Netflix in the United States, peaking at number four on the TV charts on October 6th, 2020. Our list of the best new TV shows for the first week of October included the series as well.

Why was Evil introduced to Netflix in the US?

As you might be aware, CBS has been increasingly resistant to licence its programming outside of its own CBS All Access (since rebranded to Paramount+) network, but that changed this year when Netflix picked up both this and The Unicorn. We may not have seen Evil on Netflix if the coronavirus hadn’t caused chaos on Netflix’s productions and entire 2020 lineup. In reality, we can assure you that this was the case.

When will Evil season 2 premiere on CBS?

The series will not return for its usual fall slot, as has been the case for all production this year. Instead, we’ve heard that season 2 will begin filming in New York in late September or early October 2020. The show hasn’t yet aired in the United States, so here’s the kicker: CBS will not be broadcasting the movie. Instead, it’s been relegated to a Paramount+ exclusive, making it unlikely that season 2 will be released on Netflix.

The offer on Netflix getting Evil was for a single-year licence, as Deadline confirmed when the series first came to Netflix (meaning it only covered season 1). “CBS TV Studios sees the Netflix licencing agreement as a promotional tool,” according to the article. With Evil going to Paramount+, the second season is unlikely to appear on Netflix, and the first season, even worse, may be deleted in October 2021.
