In the United Kingdom, ‘Lucifer’ is set to leave Prime Video; Finally on Netflix?

After years of being trapped between two networks, Lucifer will finally leave Prime Video in the United Kingdom, potentially heading to Netflix to finish the compilation just in time for season 5b’s release. Here’s what we’ve learned so far.

If you’re confused, it’s probably because Lucifer season 5b is already available to watch in its entirety where you live, and you’re just waiting for it to premiere on May 28th. If you live in a few different countries, though, you’ll only be able to watch season 4 onwards. That’s because when the show was at Fox, the original seasons were sold to Amazon Prime Video a long time ago.

When the show was cancelled and Netflix took over for season 4 and beyond, it was unable to quickly secure the rights to seasons 1-3. We don’t know the details, but it’s likely that we had to wait a number of years for the rights to expire, and that either Amazon or Netflix refused to purchase or sell them.

Those rights appear to be scheduled to expire on or around May 28th, 2021 (at least for seasons 1 and 2, the message does not appear in season 3). However, we do not have confirmation that the first few seasons will be available on Netflix in the United Kingdom.

Netflix Germany is one of Lucifer’s strangest regions. The show isn’t on Netflix at all, and the Netflix Original seasons are actually Prime Video-branded. That doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. That’s all we have for now; we’ll keep you updated as we hear more about Lucifer’s early season streaming rights.

It’s possible that the first two seasons of Lucifer will be removed from Amazon Prime UK on May 28 due to a copyright accident. Just one question remains: will they be available on Netflix in the United Kingdom? We haven’t found any evidence, but where else could they have gone? Our best guess is that they’ll show up on the streaming service sometime between the release of Season 5B and Season 6.
