[Watch] On this day in 2007 : Yuvraj hit six sixes and stunned the world

It was on this day, 14 years ago, when former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh scripted history in the shortest format by hitting six sixes in an over against England in the inaugural T20I World Cup in 2007 in South Africa.

The flamboyant batsman smashed 6 sixes in Stuart Broad’s over and scored his fifty of just 12 balls, which is still the fastest in the T20 format(Yeah, even after 14 years). In that match between India and England, the Men in Blue had won the toss and opted to bat first.

Yuvraj came out to bat when Robin Uthappa‘s wicket fell and he provided the finishing touch(to the innings and also to England’s hopes of winning) allowing India to post 218 runs on the board. India went on to win the match against England by 18 runs.

It was in the 19th over of India’s innings, when Yuvraj gave Broad his worst T20 figures, hitting him for 6 sixes and taking India’s total over the 200-run mark.

Let’s Relive the Moment Ball-by-Ball

18.1 : Broad to Yuvraj, SIX runs

That’s out the ground, super shot over cow corner and it just kept going up

18.2 : Broad to Yuvraj, SIX runs

Now that really is sweet, no more than a dismissive flick off his legs, swatting a fly, and the ball arcs                deep into the crowd beyond backward square leg

18.3 : Broad to Yuvraj, SIX runs

He’s hitting them everywhere, he steps to leg and smashes the ball over extra cover and it keeps on               travelling … the fireworks start on top of the scoreboard … they’ve been going off in the middle for                         some time

18.4 : Broad to Yuvraj, SIX runs

Shiver me timbers!: Broad goes round the wicket, bowls a filthy wide full toss and Yuvraj steers it over                 backward point and it clears the rope again

18.5 : Broad to Yuvraj, SIX runs

Down on one knee and larruped over midwicket, that one was more nine iron, it went into the night sky           and dropped with a thud in the jubilant crowd

18.6 : Broad to Yuvraj, SIX runs

And he has, Yuvraj leans back and smacks that over wide mid-on … it was the maximum from the                    moment it left that bat and the crowd were roaring as it flew

With the sixth six, Yuvraj brought up his fifty in just 12 balls – a record of fastest fifty in T20 which is not broken even today. Yuvraj became the first batsman to hit six sixes in Twenty20, and the fourth in senior cricket. Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri did it in first-class matches, Herschelle Gibbs in the 2007 ODI World Cup and now Yuvraj.
