Today is the first day of Mr. Beast’s Squid Game’s real-life tournament

YouTuber MrBeast’s live-action recreation of Squid Game will go live this afternoon. Squid Game, a surprise mega-hit Korean drama made by Hwang Dong-hyuk that debuted on Netflix in September of this year, was developed by Hwang Dong-hyuk.

The show follows a group of adults who compete in dangerous children’s games with the chance to earn 45.6 billion won.

The show’s explosive drama and iconic costumes struck a chord with viewers, and Squid Game topped the Nielsen streaming charts for a month before being overtaken by You, another Netflix series.

Mr. Beast’s Squid Game

Mr. Beast declared his intention to recreate Squid Game with 456 real-life people in early October. He began construction on a massively expensive set, rumored to be worth millions of dollars. The contestants will compete in the same games as the show for a cash prize, though they will not be murdered if they do not win.

MrBeast revealed all of the details on Twitter today, revealing that the event would begin streaming at 4 p.m. Eastern/1 p.m. Pacific today, November 24, 2021.

He also posted four full photographs of the set that was built for the occasion, which faithfully recreated the original show’s famous aesthetic. He’s recreated the show’s most iconic set, the desert-like red-light green-light arena ruled over by a massive porcelain doll, but he’s also recreated the tug-of-war set, the maze chamber, and the Brawl Stars arena.

Take a look at the following post:

This is only the most recent of MrBeast’s expensive stunts. After gaining popularity on YouTube for more boring videos in 2017, he began to focus on conceptually bold charity, earning him the Breakout Creator award at the 2019 Streamy Awards.

His films are frequently sponsored by different brands, and they show him distributing large quantities of money to a worthwhile charity or to subscribers, with the awards being co-sponsored by a brand. He hasn’t said whether he’s working with anyone on this, but it’d be odd if Netflix didn’t contribute a few thousand dollars to his prize pool.
