The Star Wars: Visions video has been published, promoting the upcoming Disney+ animated anthology series. The show will be a cooperation between Lucasfilm and a number of Japanese animation studios, with each episode being created by a different studio (though a handful are producing two, as is the case for Studio Trigger).
As the first Star Wars animated series to explore eras outside of the Skywalker Saga, Visions is by far one of Lucasfilm’s most ambitious projects to date. Some stories will take place years before the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, while others will take place years after Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
The trailer for Star Wars: Visions emphasises the series’ nine episodes’ varied range of animation and creative styles. This series appears to have it all, from 3D models to black-and-white charcoal-esque to traditional cel-shaded artwork. Watch the trailer for Star Wars: Visions below.
Star Wars Vision Trailer
Visions brings in an exciting new era for Star Wars fiction. The majority of Lucasfilm’s recent Star Wars-related projects (surely every feature film and television series) have been tied to the franchise’s greater canon timeline.
While this creates an interesting and unified world for long-time fans to enjoy, it restricts the types of stories that new storytellers can tell in the universe. Fortunately, Visions takes place outside of the canon continuity, allowing the creators to use their ideas to its full potential.
