The finale of Dexter Season 9 will “blow up the internet,” Says showrunner

According to creator Clyde Phillips, Dexter: New Blood will feature a thrilling finale that will break the internet. The news of the relaunch soon went viral, thanks in part to the fact that Phillips, who was the showrunner for the first four seasons of the critically acclaimed original series, will return for the ten-episode revival.

The limited series will see Michael C. Hall reprise his role as Dexter, the beloved title character who fans grew to love over the course of eight seasons, and will take place a decade after the events of the finale, which saw Dexter living in Oregon as a lumberjack after faking his death and leaving behind his son due to his sister’s tragic death.

Dexter will be reborn in a new area called Iron Lake in upstate New York, working under a new name and interacting with a completely new group of people in the reboot. Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Michael Cyril Creighton, and Jamie Chung are among the new cast members revealed for Dexter: New Blood, along with Jennifer Carpenter, who played Dexter’s sister Debra, and John Lithgow, who played the Trinity Killer in season 4.

With the return of the original creative team, there’s a chance that the reboot may recapture Dexter’s greatest features, which made the show so popular in its early seasons.

Phillips spoke on a panel at the virtual Comic-Con@Home, where he teased the ending of Dexter: New Blood, stating it will be one that fans will speak about. With the series finale nearly universally reviled and many fans felt that Dexter deserved a more satisfying conclusion, many fans assumed that the main motivation for the revival would be to correct what happened in the final episode of the series, which aired in 2013.

With Phillips’ revelation regarding the show’s shocking finale, fans are hopeful and hoping that Dexter: New Blood will do homage to the series’ reputation. Multiple Dexter season 9 teasers, including an extended sneak look of the series, hint at Dexter’s Dark Passenger resurfacing, giving fans a hopeful glimpse of what to expect from the comeback.

With the premiere of Dexter: New Blood planned for November 7, the finale is fast approaching and will almost certainly cause a stir online; the question will be whether it will go off as Phillips wants.
