Peacemaker, the new HBO Max series starring James Gunn and John Cena, has been given an episode length. Peacemaker is a new character in the DC Extended Universe who will first appear in James Gunn’s next DCEU film The Suicide Squad.
In their deadly mission on Corto Maltese, he’ll be joined by Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, King Shark, and a bevvy of other criminals. Peacemaker has been compared to a “douchey Captain America,” someone who is so obsessed with peace that he will kill to obtain it. For HBO Max, Gunn authored the entire series and is directing five of the eight episodes.
Peacemaker also features Danielle Brooks, Chukwudi Iwuji, Robert Patrick, and a host of recurrent characters from Orange is the New Black. As John Economos, Vigilante, and Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee, Freddie Stroma, and Jennifer Holland will reprise their roles from The Suicide Squad. The series will serve as a prequel to The Suicide Squad, detailing Peacemaker’s origins and how he came to be in Belle Reve.
Following the completion of filming on Peacemaker, Gunn shared additional details about the series to Collider, including the length of each episode.
The duration of the episodes may vary, according to the filmmaker, but most will be in the 40-minute range. Gunn credited the usual duration of episodic network television with helping him in defining the pace and length of the episodes.
