Robin Williams’ Daughter Zelda Marks His 69th Birthday by Donating to Homeless Shelters

Zelda Williams honored her father, Robin Williams’s legacy on what would have been his 69th birthday. On July 21, Zelda, took to Twitter in remembrance of her dad and revealed she’d be honoring him by donating to local homeless shelters.

“Wishing you all at least one hearty, immature belly laugh on Dad today”

“Today would’ve been Dad’s 69th birthday, so to honor him (& that glorious number), I will be donating $69.69 to as many local homeless shelters as I can,” Zelda wrote. “Join me if you like, but regardless, know I am wishing you all at least one hearty, immature belly laugh on Dad today.”

Zelda later offered a hilarious update. “Welp, got the “suspicious activity” email, so gonna have to slow down on 69s and go talk to a robot for a bit.”

Zelda went on to share screenshot receipts from all of her donations. Namely, Midnight Mission, Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles and San Francisco based LGBTQ centers, and many more organizations. “Gonna go back to being off socials for awhile (as I do yearly),” she concluded her thread, “but thanks for joining me in honoring Dad (and the number 69) today! … it was ‘nice.’”

Remembering Robin Williams

In August 2014, Robin Williams’s suicide at the age of 63 was devastating for his family and his millions of fans worldwide. The Iconic actor was troubled both personally and professionally. Williams was suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, a type of brain disease that affected his thinking, memory and movement control. His wife, Susan Schneider, revealed that the disease had started to take hold of the actor in the last year before his death. His symptoms worsened in the months before he took his own life.

The beloved actor began his career in comedy and was known for his manic stand-up routines. Williams made several guest appearances on TV, including Happy Days, before he was given his own show, Mork & Mindy. The Beloved actor is remembered for his diverse film performances in movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Dead Poets Society and many more.

He was nominated for four Oscars throughout his career, and went on to win one for his performance in the 1997 drama, Good Will Hunting.

“Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the pain of certain anniversaries”

Zelda has also previously opened up on social media about how difficult Williams’s birthday is for her, who died when she was 24. In 2018, she posted an emotional message about how she feels regarding her father’s death.

“It’s that time of year again. Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the pain of certain anniversaries. Moments full of memory that come round like clockwork and usurp all others, no matter how hard you may try to prepare for or avoid them,” Zelda captioned a father-daughter photo. “These weeks are the hardest for me, and thus, you’ll see me a lot less, if at all. For all the internet’s good intentions in expressing to me their fondness for dad, it’s very overwhelming to have strangers need me to know how much they cared for him right now. It’s harder still to be expected to reach back,” she wrote.

She also encouraged fans to celebrate her late father’s birthday by doing a good deed on his behalf. “If you’d like to do something in his honor, volunteer at your local homeless shelter, or look up how to make homeless aid backpacks. Give one in his name. He’d have loved that,” Zelda said.

She also tagged a few organizations. The Challenged Athletes Foundation and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. She also included the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, of which Williams was an active member. Robin was also one of the founders of Comic Relief USA. A nonprofit which has raised millions of dollars for homelessness causes in the United States over its 25-year run.
