Natalie Portman ‘Very Excited’ to Play Mighty Thor, Prepares to ‘Get Jacked’ for Marvel Return

Natalie Portman is set to make a banging return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the much anticipated, Thor: Love and Thunder. The Oscar winning actress revealed that she is particularly excited to become the first female to play the titular character.

Not ‘Lady Thor’, but, ‘Mighty Thor’

Portman also pointed out that her version of Thor is not considered “Lady Thor” but rather “The Mighty Thor.” Exactly a year ago, at San Diego Comic-Con, the 39-year-old actress revealed that she will return as Jane Foster. This particular story-line will be following a 2015 comic book arc where Foster wields the mystical hammer, Mjolnir, and becomes The Mighty Thor.

“She’s actually The Mighty Thor,” the actress told tennis legend, Serena Williams in a recent Instagram Live Chat on Saturday. “The comics had the female Thor when Jane became Thor, and she’s The Mighty Thor,” Natalie clarified.

Time to get jacked!

In chat with Williams, Portman spoke about the delay in production due to the coronavirus pandemic. “We haven’t started,” the actress said of filming. “More time to get jacked. Which I have not. I’ve got the carbo-loading down, but not the exercise part,” Natalie joked.

Despite the production delays, Portman revealed that she is “Super excited” for the new film. Which she said will begin shooting in Australia in early 2021. “Obviously everything is weird because of pandemic time, who knows what’s happening,” she said. “It will be exciting and I’m interested to see if I can gain muscle for the movie.”

“Major love for that woman”

The mother of two also spoke about her favorite Marvel character, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, who will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. “Major love for that woman,” she said of Thompson.

Portman made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2011’s Thor as Jane Foster, a scientist who became Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) love interest. She returned in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, though she did not star in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: Love and Thunder, Everything we know so far

Thor: Love and Thunder is reportedly the twenty-eighth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fifth film of MCU Phase Four. Director, Taika Waititi has already completed the film’s script, which he’s described as “insane” and “romantic. The movie is set to bring back Chris Hemsworth as Thor, along with a host of other familiar faces from the MCU.

In a recent interview, Tessa Thompson put rumors to rest when she indicated that Oscar winning actor, Christian Bale was indeed in talks to join the franchise as a Villain. The film is currently set for a February 11, 2022 release in the United States.
