Michaela Coel Reportedly Joins Cast Of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Reportedly, Michaela Coel has joined the cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It is the sequel to the hit 2018 Marvel film, Black Panther.

According to Variety, and in true Marvel fashion, details about Michaela’s role has been kept under wraps. The highly anticipated sequel of Black Panther has been in the news for a while but not much has been revealed. The I May Destroy You star has also not made a public statement after the news. And typically, neither has Marvel Studios.

Michaela will be marking her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this role. She will be joining the cast of Black Panther which includes Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong’o.

Just last month it was revealed that the filming for the Black Panther sequel has begun in Atlanta. Kevin Feige, the Marvel boss, had revealed filming without Chadwick Boseman was very emotional. Chadwick was the main lead of the Black Panther venture and he passed away in 2020. In March, Coogler said that working on the project without Boseman was “the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my professional life”.

Marvel had previously confirmed that they will not be recasting the character King T’Challa. They will also not use any digital technology to portray Chadwick’s likeness in place of his absence. Michael B. Jordan who starred in the first instalment as its main antagonist will also not be returning after his character’s death. However, he did not rule out his return in a recent interview.

Meanwhile, Danai is going to be a part of the Black Panther spinoff series for Disney+. Michaela had earned critical acclaim for her HBO Max series, I May Destroy You. She earned four Emmy nominations with it. The actress had also written, directed and produced the venture on top of starring in it. Just last month, she revealed that there were no plans for the second season.

Michaela has also been a part of various other roles after making her debut in Netflix’s Chewing Gum in 2015. She acted in Black Mirror, and feature films Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Been So Long. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is due to premiere in cinemas worldwide on July 8, 2022.
