Michael Owen Reportedly Close To Joining Strictly Come Dancing

England football legend Michael Owen is reportedly in talks to join Strictly Come Dancing this year.

What Is Happening?

The BBC’s management is said to be keen to sign the 41-year-old former Liverpool player and has been on the “wish list” for a while.

A source told The Star: “In the past, the answer was a straight ‘no agreement’ from the side of Michael, but this year the discussion is going on, so everyone has high hopes.”

He added that he would be “a big hit” with fans.

If he had been chosen to appear on the BBC dance program, Michael Owen will be joining a long list of players who have waltzed across the Strictly ballroom, including Alex Scott, David James, Robbie Savage, Peter Shilton, John Barnes and Peter Schmeichel.

This comes after Strictly pro Anton Du Beke, the only first-ever specialist from the first series, revealed to The Mirror how grateful he was for the fame he had received in the show.

He said that brought great joy to his mother after her troubled marriage with his father.

The star Strictly, 54, added that his mother had bleached her greying hair when she got divorced and “sort of turned into a hardly recognisable rock chick”.

He said: “What I love more than anything else in terms of being known is the impact it has on my mother.

“I love the fact that people know I am my mother’s son and people know my mother.

“My mom is so cute and lovely. I love that she has got famous … and she comes along now and again to see the show and it’s great.”

Speaking about life in his 20s, he said that although he had lived at home for a long time “there was no contact” with his father at the time “as our routes rarely crossed”.

Anton, who grew up in Sevenoaks, Kent, with Ascension’s Spanish mother and Hungarian father Antal, said after his parents separated it was “good to see my mother’s health begin to improve”.
