Metaverse refers to a platform that includes any digital experience on the internet that’s persistent, immersive, three-dimensional (3D), and virtual, as in, not happening in the physical world. And as articulated by the Harvard Business Review, metaverse experiences offer us the opportunity to play, work, connect or buy (and just to make things extra fun, the things we buy can be real or virtual in this world).
Roblox and Nvidia are organisations that play a dominant role in the metaverse. Roblox’s immersive platform attracts creators, designers and other users that drive the metaverse, while Nvidia has control over the market of a critical component that powers the virtual worlds, that is, the GPU or graphics processing units’ market.
Nvidia recently announced that they would make Omniverse, a real-time 3D simulation and design collaboration platform, free for artists and users. Reuters notes that Nvidia is not planning to create or develop its own metaverse/metaverse-focused objects. Instead, its striving to provide a place to support the artists and content creators of this virtual space, to people who make all users’ experiences on the metaverse special.
According to Reuters, the American firm is seeking to expand its branches in the metaverse by going from being a leading supplier for computing hardware to being a provider of software tools for creating and selling content within virtual worlds. This initiative has assisted the company greatly in doubling its share value over the past year.
Nvidia has also collaborated with digital asset libraries and 3D marketplaces like Sketchfab, TurboSquid by Shutterstock, Twinbru, and CGTrader to introduced some new features that it has added to the Omniverse. Coingape remarked that among its new features is the one-click collaboration tool called Nucleus Cloud. Some new extensions, connectors, and asset libraries built by some of Nvidia’s partners have also been added to the interface.
For those interested, users can create 3D assets and scenes from their computer using the Omniverse.
