Lil Nas X Hilariously Explains What It Means To Come Out Of The Closet

Lil Nas X had faced backlash for his recent music video release. Turns out the two-time Grammy winner is great with kids as he recently proved on Wednesday’s episode of the YouTube series Arts & Raps.

The musician explained hilariously to the show’s little hosts, Zaria and Dilan, what it means to come out of the closet. All three of them were working on paintings together. The rapper explained, “It means you’re like, ‘Hey everybody, I’m this thing, and you guys didn’t even know that, but now you know.”

The little host, Dilan then shared his own story about closets. He shared that he and his older cousin kept pushing his brother into the closet. The child explained further that they closed the door and blink the lights on and off. He said, “And we close the door and blink the lights on and off, and then say ‘666’ or ‘Bloody Mary.’ And then he swore he saw something.”

Lil Nas was trying to keep a straight face during this story as he said that is exactly what happened to him. There was laughter behind the camera as the rapper said, “That’s exactly what I meant when I said I was coming out of the closet.” The musician then shared some advice to the kids. Zaria asked him what it means to be unapologetically you.

Lil Nas Explains What Being “Unapologetically You” Means

The Old Town Road singer responded that it means doing yourself at all costs, no matter who is watching. He added how it gets really hard because we think about what everybody in the world thinks about us. The rapper said, “It gets really hard, because everybody in the world, we always think about what everybody else is thinking about us. Sometimes, we forget to think about what we think about ourselves, you know?”

The little host then complimented the rapper for not caring what others think about him. He explained that he will not say he does not care. The rapper explained, “It’s like, I’m able to care and push it off of my shoulder.”

Lil Nas received backlash after releasing his latest single, Montero (Call Me By Your Name), and its music video. However, the song quickly became his second No. 1 hit. In the video, the rapper slides down a pole from heaven to give the devil a lap dance before stealing his horns. The rapper has handled the situation in his way as he clapped back at parents who declared he is a bad influence on their children. “I am an adult. I am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. that is your job,” he wrote in one tweet.

Lil Nas had published an open letter for his 14-year-old self about the importance of his latest single. He wrote how this will open doors for so many other queer people to simply exist. “You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda,” he continued. “But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the f— out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future. -lnx”

The musician came out as a member of the LGBTQ community back in June 2019. He wrote on Twitter how some of his fans already know, some don’t care and some of them are not going to be around him anymore.
