Lady Gaga X Blackpink’s sweet new collab, ‘Sour Candy’ just dropped

Lady Gaga is on a roll! The pop icon surprised her fans with yet another exciting collaboration. This time, she has joined forces with leading K-pop girl group, Blackpink. The Queen of pop surprised her fans with their latest single ‘Sour Candy’ which dropped early on Thursday morning. Their latest bop sets the stage for the release of her new album Chromatica on May 29.

The bilingual dance track features the icon, as well as K-pop queens Jennie, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo. Fans have speculated that Sour Candy might be the release that gives Lady Gaga her platinum record and the girls their spot on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Where it all started

Rumours of this powerful collaboration began circulating in March. The Chromatica track list was accidentally leaked, creating buzz of an upcoming collaboration between their fans. Lady Gaga later confirmed the track list and collaborations on April 21st. The singer was positively excited when she revealed, “I wanted to celebrate them because they love powerful women like us. They also wanted to celebrate me, and we had a great time together with this song,” The singer said. “I was excited to hear them interpret the song in Korean, and told them that the part was so creative and fun.”

The song, staying true to its name, has lyrics like, “Come unwrap me,” and “Take a bite”. As Gaga reiterates in the chorus, the track is about being like sour candy — “hard on the outside’. But, open to love and affection when given a little time.

Sour candy is a much awaited release for Blinkies (Blackpink fandom), as the track is their first glimpse at new music from the group since Kill this Love which was released over a year ago and 841 million views to this day.

Lady Gaga’s album, Chromatica, which was initially scheduled for a release on April 10th but was unfortunately delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now dropping on Friday, May 29th.
