Lady Gaga Thinks There’s Too Much Attention On Her House Of Gucci Accent

Lady Gaga, the Grammy-nominated singer and Oscar-nominated actress; believes there is too much focus on the accent she assumed for her role as Patrizia Reggiani; in the upcoming Gucci film House of Gucci.

Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, and Jeremy Irons are among the cast members of Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated picture. The film is already receiving a healthy amount of Oscar buzz for Gaga’s portrayal of Reggiani.

The true storey of Reggiani, who married into the famed Gucci fashion dynasty in 1972; is told in House of Gucci. In 1985, her husband, Maurizio Gucci (played by Driver in the film); abandoned her and their two children, and the couple divorced in 1994. However, Maurizio was shot dead a year after the couple divorced; Reggiani was found guilty of hiring an assassin to assassinate her ex-husband two years later.

She was sentenced to 29 years in prison but only served 18 years; before being released on good behaviour. The goal of Scott’s film is to go into the remarkable circumstances that shaped Reggiani’s life at the time; -a period in her life when she believed; she was even more of a Gucci than those who were born into the family.

With a background as illustrious as Reggiani’s, the role is one that Gaga appears to have taken very seriously. The internet has been buzzing with anticipation over a chance to see House of Gucci; since word broke that the 35-year-old spent nine months in character; accent included. However, according to ET Canada, Gaga believes there is too much emphasis on the length of time she spends in character. She described the process of becoming Reggiani as something she did out of necessity, saying:

Gaga Has Already Been Praised For Her Performance Before The Premiere

“If I’m being honest, I do feel that it’s been sensationalized that I worked on my accent for so long; and that I was in character for so long. I think it would have done more of a number on me had I not practiced it so much. It would have been harder for me to go in and out of character on set than to stay in it.”

Anyone who has yet to see Lady Gaga in action will like the new House of Gucci trailer; which features some amazing moments from the pop diva turned actress. It also allows viewers to compare and contrast Gaga’s performance with those of the other performers. The film will undoubtedly have a high bar to clear; especially given the recent buzz surrounding Gaga’s method of acting; and the consequences of that practice.

Scott has a good track record with his films; which may be attributed to his well-deserved reputation as the godfather of science fiction; as the Alien franchise is still going strong 40 years later.

While Lady Gaga’s performance in House of Gucci has been widely praised; the trailer does not give the picture a sense of invincibility. In the short scenes in which he appears in the trailer; Driver’s accent and delivery come across as a little shaky; even Pacino’s attempts at an Italian accent beg the issue of; why the film wasn’t shot in Italian with Italian-speaking actors.

This may appear to be a little annoyance, but to some members of the Gucci family; they are major concerns. Even if the film’s popularity does not meet expectations; Lady Gaga’s performance will undoubtedly continue to get a lot of attention.
