Justin Bieber & Shawn Mendes Release New ‘Monster’ Collaboration

As speculated, Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes have collaborated to release a new song. The new track is called, Monster and it marks the first time the two musicians have worked together.

Shawn initiates the song as he sings about being pedestal, “You put me on a pedestal and tell me I’m the best / Raise me up to the sky until I’m out of breath / Fill me up with confidence, I say what’s in my chest / Spill my words and tear me down until there’s nothing left / Rearrange the pieces just to fit me with the rest, yeah.”

Justin joins the singer and adds, “I was fifteen when the world put me on a pedestal / I had big dreams shows and making memories / Made some bad moves trying to act cool, upset by their jealously / Lifting me up (Lifting me up), lifting me up (Yeah).”

The two musicians had shared the news of their collaboration back on Monday by sharing the same instrumental. “#MONSTER Nov 20th @shawnmendes,” Bieber captioned his post. Mendes echoed him on his own account, adding that the tune is the “next single from #WONDER.”

Shawn had revealed about his equation with the Yummy singer in an interview with Zane Lowe. He shared that the song has resonated with him but it never found its way out. The singer added that he was listening to the song suddenly and it started his relationship with Justin.

“It feels like one of the most special songs I’ve ever written”

“It just started forming properly in the last three months. And I called him and I was like, ‘Look, I have this song. It’s kind of going there,'” shared the Senorita singer. He further shared how it was about society putting celebrities up on a pedestal.

Shawn explained that society watches them fall and it is entertainment for them. He shared, And it’s hard. And his heart fell deep into it. He and I, even yesterday, we’re on the phone for an hour and had the deepest conversation, I think, about so much. And it just felt really nice because it was a full-circle moment for me, this guy who was the reason I started singing.”

The Wonder singer also shared how Justin was like Elvis to him when he started out his singing career. He shared that the collaboration meant a lot to him and having conversations with him felt special.

Shawn explained, “And to come back around and to have this very human to a human conversation with him and his truth to come into that song and my truth to be there, it feels like one of the most special songs I’ve ever written,” he said. “And the more I listened to it and the deeper I get into it, this is not just about celebrities. This is the human experience.”

Speculation Of A Collaboration

In an interview on Capital Breakfast with the Roman Kemp radio show, the singer was questioned about creating a duet with Justin. He said, “Is this you trying to get me to confirm that I have a collaboration with Justin Bieber?”

Shawn said he would be insane if he turned an opportunity to collaborate with Justin as he is one of his favorite artists since he was nine years old. Before fans started speculating about the tension between the two artists. The simple reason was that Shawn once dated Justin’s now-wife, Hailey Bieber.

The couple had made an appearance together at the 2018 Met Gala together. However, they publicly dismissed the relationship rumors. The singer also opened up about his current relationship with Camila Cabello.

In Wonder streams on Netflix on November 23rd.
