Jennifer Grey and Clark Gregg announced the news of their separation in a joint statement on Friday. The Marvel Cinematic Universe actor and the Dirty Dancing actress took to their social media accounts to announce the sad news. In the brief, but emotional message, the two revealed they’ve been separated since January. They have since decided to formally split.
“After 19 years together, we separated in January, knowing we’d always be a family who loves, values and cares for each other,” their statement began. “We recently made the difficult decision to divorce, but we remain close and are deeply grateful for the life we’ve shared and the wonderful daughter we’ve raised.” Their statement was posted alongside a photo of the pair sharing an embrace. The couple added that they were “totally crying” as they posted the announcement. Friends and fans from around the world showed their support for Grey and Gregg.
Grey and Gregg’s announcement comes as the couple would have celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary this month. Gregg and Grey are amongst a long list of celebrities who have recently separated.
Trip down memory lane
Grey, 60, and Gregg, 58, tied the knot in July 2001 on Martha’s Vineyard beach. The two had been dating since summer 2000. During their time together, the two actors welcomed their now 18-year-old daughter, Stella.
Clark dedicated a sweet post for his daughter on Instagram after she graduated from high school this year. “Have to beam on this one for a moment. Stella Gregg, you didn’t get the senior spring you deserved. But you worked so hard and (almost) never complained about the zoom classes and zoom senior day,” he wrote alongside a photo. “You are deep and wise and hilarious and the world will be better off in your hands. I love you.”
On Father’s Day, Jennifer penned an adoring caption for her husband. She wrote, “Happy father’s day @clarkgregg. I love you and am beyond grateful you showed up just in the nick of’ time to make my dream come true. For continuing to show up as a devoted, loving dad and partner to raise this amazing human with. Couldn’t have done it without you. #fathersday”
Past roles
Jennifer and Clark, who are both iconic actors, have worked together on more than one occasion. In 2006, the couple starred opposite one another in the Lifetime movie Road to Christmas. This year they also briefly appeared on The Conners where they played a couple.
Gregg is best known for playing Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Iron Man in 2008. Grey starred as the iconic character Baby in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. She is also fondly remembered as Jeannie Bueller on Ferris Bueller’s day off. She has since had roles on Grey’s Anatomy and won season 11 of Dancing with the Stars.
