Jamie Lynn Spears defends Britney Spears amid mental health concerns

Jamie Lynn Spears has made it very clear that she won’t stand for any negativity surrounding her sister, who is popular singer, Britney Spears.

On Tuesday, the actress took to Instagram to speak about the importance of respect when discussing mental illness. The actress was even forced to hit back at insensitive trolls who demanded information on her older sibling. Needless to say Jamie gave them a fitting reply.

“If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence”

Jamie Lynn shared her thoughts on addressing mental illness and quoted Halsey, to drive the point home. On Tuesday afternoon, the Zoey 101 star shared a screenshot of the singer’s tweet. The tweet called for “sympathy” towards those who struggle with mental health issues. Especially bipolar disorder.

“????????????????????????????????????????. ‘If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence’- HALSEY,”

The actress continued, “If you deal with mental illness or care for someone dealing with mental illness, then you know how important it is to respect the situation. With privacy for the person, and the family trying to protect their loved ones, no matter how it may appear to the public. And as the public we must learn to do the same.” She concluded the message,”I pray this doesn’t bring shame to anyone dealing with mental illness, you are not alone, and you are loved. Sending all my love and prayers to all of you♥️.”

Kanye West’s Mental Breakdown

Although neither Halsey or Jamie Lynn’s posts specifically named the rapper. The two women seemed to reference Kanye West’s mental breakdown.

The rapper had an overwhelming presidential rally campaign where he ranted about abortion, divorce, Kim Kardashian West, Kris Jenner and Harriet Tubman. And if that wasn’t enough of a spectacle, the rapper went on to post a string of now-deleted, cryptic tweets that have led users to talk about his mental health.

Sources have revealed Kanye’s family is concerned that he’s experiencing a “serious manic bipolar episode” which has left his loved ones concerned. The rapper’s remarks quickly went viral, with many users ridiculing him, however, Singer, Halsey did not find the situation funny.

“Personal opinions aside, a manic episode isn’t a joke”

Halsey, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane tweeted about her own experiences navigating the condition. While the 25 year old singer never mentions West by name in a series of several tweets, the idea was quite clear.

‘No jokes right now. I have dedicated my career to offering education and insight about bipolar disorder and I’m so disturbed by what I’m seeing,’ Halsey began. ‘Personal opinions about someone aside, a manic episode isn’t a joke. If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence,’ she added. In another tweet, she added, ‘A lot of people you know probably have bipolar disorder and you aren’t aware of it.’

“She is a strong, badass, unstoppable woman”

Many fans were quick to assume that Jamie Lynn was referencing her older sister. Over a year has passed since Britney received treatment at a mental health facility in Los Angeles. One critic asked, “How about your sisters [sic] OBVIOUS mental illness? Why don’t you speak on that?”

She clapped back in the comments. “You have no right to assume anything about my sister. And I have NO right to speak about HER health and personal matters,” Jamie Lynn wrote. “She is a strong, badass, unstoppable woman, and that’s the only thing that is OBVIOUS,” she added.

In response to another troll who demanded that Jamie Lynn and the rest of her family “speak out and clarify all these assumptions,” she wrote. “I would never speak out just to clarify things to the public, when the person it pertains to does not want that to happen.” She added, “I’d rather take all the hate, then speak about someone else’s [sic] personal matter, that they want to keep private.”

Britney Spears, suffered a much publicized emotional breakdown in 2007, which led to multiple psychiatric evaluations. And eventually a court-order conservatorship. The Conservatorship is now set to be reviewed in a virtual court hearing this Wednesday.
