Highly-Anticipated Series In 2021

This year belongs to television as streaming platforms are announcing back to back shows for audiences to stream from their homes. The majority of these projects are Marvel’s upcoming shows as heroes from Phase 4 are going to shine on our screens.

They are releasing movies as well as spinoff series for almost all characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. WandaVision premiered on January 15 as it kicked off the very long list of upcoming shows and movies. Marvel will also have shows including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki.

However, there are other shows as well that is going to keep us busy. Dexter will release its revival limited series where the audience’s favorite serial killer comes back. Meanwhile, Friends will have their special reunion which is rumored to be streaming in March. Other shows like The Nevers, The Underground Railroad, and a series based on the Halo gaming franchise are also being released.

Here’s are some of the most highly anticipated series of 2021 which you should definitely check out.

Bel-Air (Peacock)

The reboot of the super hit comedy show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is coming to our screens as it is being converted into a drama. It has been given a two-season order as it is inspired by a fan-made trailer made by Morgan Cooper. He will also be directing and co-executive produce the reboot as Chris Collins will be the co-writer.

The drama will be of one-hour and will focus on the same premise as the original series but will be set in the present day.

‘The Book of Boba Fett’ (Disney Plus)

This show will be a spinoff of Disney Plus’ Emmy Nominated series, The Mandalorian. It will be revolving around the bounty hunter Boba Fett. The character was first introduced on the big screen in the franchise Star Wars. It soon became a fan-favorite for its striking armor and cool demeanor. The show will see Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen who plays bounty hunter Fennec Shand.

‘Clarice’ (CBS)

This upcoming drama series will look at the personal story of FBI Agent, Clarice Starling. She returns to the field in 1993 which is shown as six months after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. The show is based on the novel by Thomas Harris and will explore the FBI Agent’s traumatic childhood. This has, however, helped the character to find her voice working in a male-biased society.

‘Colin in Black and White’ (Netflix)

This drama series will be focusing on Colin Kaepernick’s childhood and rise to the changed-focus figure he has become. The show is created by Colin and Ava DuVernay as the plot specifically focuses on the dynamics of a Black Child growing up under the tutelage of adopted white parents.

‘Dad Stop Embarrassing Me’ (Netflix)

The series features Jamie Foxx and is inspired by his experience raising daughter Corinne Foxx. He will also be executive producing the upcoming series as his daughter is the producer. The story of the show has been kept under wraps.

‘Dexter’ (Showtime)

The on-screen serial killer will be back as Michael C. Hall will be reprising his role in the limited series based on the previous seasons. The showrunner will also be returning as Clancy Brown will also be a part of the story. There will be 10 episodes and the plot has not been revealed. The last time the audience saw Dexter fake his death and was working as a lumberjack. The character’s son was left to be raised by another murderer and it looked like he was not able to leave his true identity behind.

‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ (Disney Plus)

This series will be taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. The story revolves around Anthony’s Falcon after he takes up the mantle of Captain America titles in the Avengers: Endgame.

‘Friends’ Reunion Special (HBO Max)

The reunion special is scheduled to stream in March and will include the original cast members. The 1990s sitcom features Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry. This will not have them reprising their roles however, it is a kind of panel discussion as they look back on the series.

‘Gossip Girl’ (HBO Max)

Gossip Girl is also returning to our screens on HBO Max. The highly anticipated reboot will introduce a new community of New York’s elite high schoolers and are equipped with social media. The show features an all-new cast and it was announced to feature more gender-inclusive and diverse cast members.

‘Hawkeye’ (Disney Plus)

Disney Plus series will be introducing a new character in this show, Kate Bishop. The new character is played by Hailee Steinfeld. This will also see Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series also picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame just like WandaVision.

‘Impeachment: American Crime Story’ (FX)

This upcoming limited series by Ryan Murphy is the third installment of the American Crime Story franchise. The story revolves around the drama surrounding the scandal that was President Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

‘Loki’ (Disney Plus)

This show will see Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The limited series has six episodes and will exist see an alternate version of Loki which created a new timeline of events. The alternate version came into existence as the character’s death has already been shown in Avengers: Infinity War.

‘The Lord of the Rings’ (Amazon)

This multi-season adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings will serve as an add-on to the film trilogy. The film takes place during the Second Age of Middle Earth and JD Payne and Patrick McKay who are the writers will develop the series. They will act as executive producers and showrunners. There were reportedly 20 new additions to the cast and no information about the plot for the series and characters.

‘Ms. Marvel’ (Disney Plus)

Another new Marvel character’s introduction will be happening in the new Marvel series. The story revolves around an American teenager who transforms into becoming her own hero after writing fan fiction about Captain Marvel.

‘Only Murders in the Building’ (Hulu)

The comedy series will star Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as a group of true-crime fans. They find themselves entangled in one such case as it slowly unfolds. The trio hopes their experience can lead them to solve a murder that took place in their apartment complex.
