Eva Mendes Reacts After Parenting Advice Sparked Social Media Debate

Eva Mendes opened a conversation about parenting. She shares two daughters with Ryan Gosling.

The actress took to her social media handle as she shared her thoughts on spanking. She noted that she is often asked to list her favorite red carpet dress, however, she is not often asked to provide her favorite parenting quote. The Hitch star posted the quote which read, “Spanking does for a child’s development what hitting a spouse does for a marriage.”

Some of her followers completely agreed with this, however, other fans were not pleased. One social media user wrote, “I don’t know. I was spanked and now I’m a respectful adult. And believe me, I deserved those whoopings. I was a brat.” 

But the actress was pleased that there was a discussion. She responded as she commented saying thank you and wrote that she disagrees. The actress further wrote she wants this page to offer that lovingly. She added how everyone approaches parenting differently.

Eva wrote, “We all parent our own way, and I have no idea what I’m doing most of the time. This didn’t come with a manual. So when there’s something that resonates with me, I pass it on. Lotsa love.” Another follower shared how glad they are to be growing up at this time that this can be discussed.

The actress also expressed how happy she was to be able to talk about alternative discipline now. However, she shared when she was a kid that was not an option. Both Eva and Ryan have shielded their children from the limelight. She had shared once that she has always had a clear boundary when it comes to her man and her kids.

“Ryan Gosling happened. I mean, falling in love with him.”

Eva said,  “I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life. And since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent. And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.”

However, recently she has shared a bit of insight into her life. She posted photos of the makeover she received from her kids and also talked about raising children amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The actress has given a few glimpses of her private life as a mom.

Eva did not always think about starting a family. She told Women’s health back in 2019 that having kids was the last thing in her mind. The actress also shared what changed her mind. She said, “Ryan Gosling happened. I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.”
