Emily in Paris creator Neil Patrick Harris has been cast in a new Netflix comedy

Neil Patrick Harris has been recruited in the lead role of Uncoupled, a new Netflix series from the creator of Emily in Paris. Harris gained to popularity as the wunderkind doctor Doogie Howser, M.D. on How I Met Your Mother and then as the caddish Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother.

The multihyphenate has also presented award shows, produced films such as Wig and Revolution Rent, and acted in theatre, including a Broadway run as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Harris will star in the next project from Darren Star, the creator of the classics Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, and Sex and the City, as well as the more recent romcoms Younger and Emily in Paris, according to Deadline. Along with Jeffery Richman, who executive produced Modern Family, Harris has joined on as an executive producer.

New Netflix Comedy

MTV Entertainment Studios and Jax Media are producing the show, which will begin filming this fall. Despite Harris’ long and illustrious career, this will be his first major sitcom role since HIMYM.

To date, the majority of Star’s most popular shows have centred on primarily straight characters, with LGBTQ individuals serving as supporting characters. Teen dramas like Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place centred on the hormonal yearnings of young heterosexuals.

SATC, Younger, and Emily in Paris are three films about urban women who are balancing men and their careers. Stanford Blatch, Carrie’s gay pal on SATC, has had his own romantic entanglements and is a beloved character among SATC fans.
