Elliot Page Shares Shirtless Picture For The First Time After Coming Out As Trans Last Year

Elliot Page has received a lot of praise from the online community for posting a shirtless picture for the first time since coming out as trans in December.

The Instagram post shared by the actor displays him smiling as he poses in swimming shorts alongside a caption that says #transjoy and #transisbeautiful.

Life Saving Surgery

Page, 34, previously described his advanced top surgery – in which breast tissue is removed – as “life-saving”.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey last month he had said it made him “feel comfortable” in own body “maybe for the first time”.

The Umbrella Academy star explained in tears as to why his chest had brought him “great joy” in transformation.

“It comes out of the shower and the towel is on your waist and you look at yourself in the mirror and you’re like, ‘There I am’. And I’m not having the moment where I’m panicked,” he said during the Apple TV interview.

Celebrity Reactions

The page’s post on Instagram has already garnered over two million likes and a wave of celebrity comments praising the new look of the actor.

“Dude I see why you crushed me on that workout!” actor Justin Cornwell commented. “Hot” added singer Miley Cyrus, alongside a heart emoji.

Nina Dobrev of the Vampire Diaries said: “You look amazing… and above all you’re happy.”

Julianne Moore, who starred with Page in the film Freeheld, wrote: “Happy summer” accompanied by a flaming emoji.

Winfrey contributed support by reposting the photo on the Oprah Daily Instagram account.

“Here’s exactly what joy it looks like!” he wrote. “Looks like Elliot will be much brighter than the sun this summer.”

LGBT Activist

Page, a prominent LGBT advocate, also used an April interview of the two to highlight how the surgery gave him new strength in the fight for trans rights, “because it’s a liberating, freeing thing”.

“Not only has it been a life-changing experience for me, I believe it has been a lifesaver and it is the story of so many people.

Page was referring to laws in Arkansas and further legal fights across the US threatening to ban young transgender people from accessing certain medical treatments.

The Canadian actress made film debut in a young pregnant teen in 2007 – Juno – nominated for an Oscar nomination.

Other major films include Inception and the X-Men series, before starring Vanya Hargreeves in the big Netflix Umbrella Academy drama.
